Fame and Farewell to True Rock Star, David Bowie

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

From Ziggy Stardust, the Labyrinth to The Elephant Man, David Jones, Bowie was a creative genius. Preferring a quiet life, rather than that of the limelight, David remembered for his lyrics, individuality and his ability to morph.

David's ability to re-create himself is why I respect him so much. Life with David was never boring. David Bowie died at the age of 69 after an eighteen-month bought of cancer two days after his birthday and final album release and farewell to fans, Blackstar. The lyrics of this album apparently, about his death. He knew it would be his last. He had no plans for another tour or concert.

His wife, Iman shared poignant tweets with her followers:

David Bowie's wife Iman (left) shared several emotional tweets during the singer's last weekend on Earth.

"The struggle is real, but so is God," she posted on Sunday at 9 a.m., approximately 13 hours before Bowie's death was announced.
The 60-year-old model began the outpour on Friday, when she shared: "Life isn't about avoiding the bruises. It's about collecting the scars to prove we showed up for it."
She shared an even more moving message the next day, stressing the value of cherishing every moment.
"Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory," the post read."

Born, David Jones in London, he changed his name with the rise to fame of Monkey's David Jones, to Bowie. With news of the androgynous rock star's death grows his new album heads to number 1 in the UK.

Bowie bent the rules about sex. He cavorted with girls, boys and in 1983 pronounced his claim that he was bisexual the biggest mistake he ever made. He said he was always a closet "heterosexual."

Outspoken in 1982, Bowie called out the network executives live during an interview on MTV, for being racist with the artists who's videos they aired.

Strange and wonderful The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Spiders From Mars was released in 1972. David introduced us to gender-bending looks and personas long before they became commonplace. A trendsetter often copied by others, Under Pressure recorded with Queen, contained the riff copied by Vanilla Ice with his hit Ice-Ice Baby. Interestingly I was listening to Under Pressure on Saturday morning David's birthday while doing my dancing in The Mojave, and thinking about posting it on my blog.

Reble Reble was Bowie's farewell to the glam movement that he helped pioneer. Released in 1974, from album Diamond Dogs, it is Bowie's most covered song.  Doesn't it sound like The Stones more recent tunes?

Best known for Golden Years, Modern Love, Space Oddity, Major Tom, Changes, Let's Dance, Under Pressure, Ziggy Stardust, he recorded with Jagger and co-wrote Fame with John Lennon. More from New York Times.

We don't think of David Bowie as a parent, but he was. He has left three children. Zowie Bowie, now named Duncan Jones a director, and daughter Alexandria, 15, with supermodel Iman lives a normal life. Both mourn the loss of their iconic father.

David's best remembered music

"My entire career, I've only really worked with the same subject matter," Bowie told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. "The trousers may change, but the actual words and subjects I've always chosen to write with are things to do with isolation, abandonment, fear and anxiety - all of the high points of one's life."

Though rarely seen in public, David is noted for being candid in interviews. His rivalry between himself and Mick Jagger continued till the end of his life.

David's thoughts on life:
Fame:

Fame can take interesting men and thrust mediocrity upon them.

Fame doesn't afford anyone anything more than a good seat in a restaurant.

As you get older, the questions come down to about two or three: how long and what do I do with the time I’ve got left?”

David lived in West Berlin in the late 1970's and helped to bring down the Berlin wall. Germany's Foreign Ministry considers Bowie one of the heroes recognized for this feat. Interestingly, David didn't like dancing, though he sang about it often.

Thank you, David, for such a vast and amazingly unique array of music and lyrics for us to enjoy for many years to come.  We wish you a safe journey into the beyond!

The Spiral Of Addiction? - Or As The World Turns

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Sometimes, our addictive behaviors and patterns are so ingrained that we would rather stay where we are then take the step up, to get out of it. There are many ways that addictions express themselves. From food addiction, to shopping, drugs or sex, the source of all addictions is the same. We long for love. We crave love and don't love ourselves enough.

If our addiction is food, we can take care of this over-eating problem by lap-band surgery. Seemingly a quick fix recovery for many. The problem on the other side is the root of the issue remains. Another addiction turns up which can't be controlled with surgery. If we don't get to the root of the issue, the addiction is not healed.

We might have our ex who used to beat us up, sleeping on our couch because he is the father of our daughter, so we have to help him, right? We may focus on fixer upper relationships, certainly with our help we can shape our partners into better humans. This focus on others takes us away from healing our own issues. We look at others issues because it is too painful to see our own.

As a former addict myself, my addiction to love, relationships, shopping and sex was the driving force in my life. I had to have a relationship to feel whole and complete. In marriage, I found myself reactive, emotional and self sabotaging. My own inner demons attracted partners who had them also.

Addicts experience highs that are amazing and lows that are so dark that getting out of bed can take hours. No matter who you are, on some level addictions are at the core of our human experience.

We look at the man we are living with, perhaps with disdain, because he is an alcoholic. Looking at him, we can't see our own addiction to pot, food, chocolate or sex. Addictions are addictions. No one is better than another because of their drug of choice. Codependence is one of the biggest humans experience.

From Day One

From the day we are born, we are codependent. We need our mothers for food, care, diaper changes and love. We need to be held, cuddled, praised and cared for with loving kindness. We need to be told we are wonderful, hugged, held and guided lovingly.
When those things don't happen, we look for others things to fulfil our needs as adults. When our mothers aren't whole, confident and healthy human beings, we don't form healthy bonds with other humans. We look to others for validation, praise, self esteem and love. Often we are so blocked and resistant to love, we don't feel it when it is truly present.

Smoke 'Em If You've Got 'Em

If humans weren't such addicted souls, alcohol, pot, chocolate and cigarettes wouldn't be multi-billion dollar industries.

Ultimate Compassion

As a healed healer, I have dealt with my own demons over the years. I no longer need to have a man in my life to feel complete. I love being alone with me. I love myself - even the parts that used to drive me crazy, like ADD. I have learned to lovingly embrace all the parts of myself and use those shadowy parts to write and express myself creatively. At one time, I used to spend thousands of dollars in one shopping expedition. Now I rarely shop and focus on bargains, instead of extravagance. I am happy no matter where I am and who I am with. My adult children, mother and I all share happy healthy boundaries and healed relationships.

I have great compassion for people with addictions. Healing our addictions cannot be done alone. We need help. We need someone to reach down and pull us up, one step up the ladder at a time. We need someone to lovingly encourage us. Our mind chatter keeps us stuck, ravaged by guilt, low self esteem and self sabotage that we can't break out of on our own. I know it took me 30 years of deep, intensive excavation to do it.

Neediness And Love

Marilyn was the epitome of neediness, the loss of her mother
created a void she attempted to fill with alcohol and drugs.
It was not always easy for me. I used to think I loved myself. Yet, when it came time for being alone, I felt restless, uncomfortable in my own skin. I didn't like being alone with me. I longed for companionship and someone to love me. I had it backwards. Until I completely loved and accepted myself, I wasn't ready to have a healed and healthy relationship. I was too needy. Now I help women (and some men) find the love that they are, FIRST, before they go out trying to attract someone in.

Drugs, Alcohol, Sex, Shopping, Work

Balancing our lives without addiction may mean we don't drink, smoke or shop like warriors any more. We may find a simple life is much more fulfilling. We need the spiritual part to complete the process. Through meditation, mantras, and spiritual practice, the void we once felt is filled.

Using Our Addiction To Avoid Feeling

When shopping was my drug of choice, the thrill of the hunt made me feel high. I loved finding new outfits; purses, shoes, belts and skirts that all looked fantastic on me. When it came time to pay at
the cash register, I often broke into a sweat. I would justify my purchases, I deserved them I would think at the same time ask myself, "What am I doing?" Then guilt would set in. I would feel regret, shame and horrible afterward. The thrill was in the hunt. After a while, when my credit cards were tapped out, I found staying away from malls, festivals and stores was a better way to go, when I was feeling emotions I didn't want to experience.

I didn't think I had a problem. I know other women shop and never wear half of what they buy. Taking armfuls of brand new clothes to Goodwill years later with tags still on. This is a problem.

Suppressing Emotions

Anytime we reach for chocolate, alcohol, pot, Zanax, excessive masturbation, sex or shop to shift the way we feel, we are numbing ourselves. The source is a lack of self acceptance and unconditional love.

What Can You Do NOW?

  1. Recognize you have an issue. DENIAL is the biggest part of addiction.
  2. Accept that you have an issue and you need help. Get counseling, a coach or someone to help you through it.
  3. Spiritual Practice. Ask for God's help. The fastest way to heal an addiction is by admitting you are helpless over it. Most addicts think they can do it themselves. That is the inner demons talking. Most people will not kick a habit without help of some kind - 12 step, church, prayer, healer or coach, therapy.
  4. Be compassionate. The more loving you are of yourself through it, the better off you will be. You will have greater success when you don't beat yourself up for it. Humans have addictions. You are human.
  5. Stopping the habit (addiction) is not enough. Behavior has to change. Without a change in behavior there is no change. Don't keep credit cards, wine, cigarettes, sugary foods, drugs in your home.
  6. Perception is everything. Have a positive attitude. You can do this!
  7. Eat a healthy diet. Good food will help sustain you through the stress of giving up your addiction.
  8. Get enough sleep. A good night's sleep will help you feel more positive and aid depression.
  9. Love yourself. You deserve it! You are deserving of love. You are already worthy. You are already enough!
As a healed addict myself, I understand the power of addictions. Most of us can go through the list beginning with codependence, alcohol, pot, food, sex....  giving up one addiction for another. Until the behavior and thoughts change - no change is permanent. Even drinking coffee every day is an addiction. In my work with co-dependence I give you the tools to assist you change behaviors. Through loving support, I encourage you, uplift you and help you with tools you can use every day.

Most people don't think of codependency as an addiction, but it is. When you have a longing inside of you that nothing can fill, I can help. When you put your relationship above your personal health and happiness, it is codependency. We stay in relationships that are unhealthy because we are addicted. I hope that you will contact me for your free discovery session to find out whether my work is a good fit for you.

With much love,

Sex Pot - Going Green For Orgasms

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Sex with pot? You might be wondering if I have lost my mind? Is this post supposed to be SEX POT?  No. This is a subject that many people are discussing. I have been wanting to open up about my own personal experience with pot way back in Toronto in the 80's.

I grew up in the hippy days of Love Ins, and the pot smoking 70's. Marijuana was different back then. There weren't 100 different strains. As a matter of fact, there was only one and it was green!

To get high in order to avoid feelings or avoid life is not what this article is about. Marijuana used in a sacred or medicinal way is what I am writing about. Celebrating life, rather than escaping from life is living fully.

Medicinal Marijuana

Marijuana can reduce pain, depression, cure cancer, stop children from having 100s of seizures a day, stop the effects of many chronic diseases and help a woman who is non-orgasmic, get to multiple orgasms. The body of evidence is piling up almost as tall as the marijuana plants themselves.

Back in the 70's and 80's pot was filled with seeds that popped, not that I would know, of course! Joints were rolled and very few people used a pipe. Marijuana was not used for medicinal purposes, but recreational use, because no one studied the positive side effects. There are many reasons why people like Martha Stewart or even John Stewart smoke it. Today people prefer one of the two strains Sativa or Indica. Sometimes it is a mix of both.

When we lived in Boulder, Colorado the American mecca for pot, we be-friended a man who had formerly been an alcoholic. He had a very rough childhood, molested by his mother. His brother committed suicide at 21. He smoked weed because he could not function in life without it. He had terrible PTSD from childhood.

He had reformed, given up alcohol completely and switched to pot. He became a connoisseur of marijuana. It was one of the things he talked about endlessly. He educated me on the different strains. He said that Sativa was a head-high and that Indica was a body-high. Sativa will open your mind, expand your horizons and quite possibly make you chatty.

Indica hits your body and can make you a couch potato. In other words, if you want to enhance your sexual encounter you probably don't want to smoke 100% Indica, as you might be locked unable to move, smile or even open your eyes.

Today pot is smoked by 65% of the population, although the government reports very different statistics saying nothing has changed since the 80s. I know very few teens who have not smoked marijuana today. From Oprah Winfrey to Lady Gaga, President Obama to President Clinton. There is even a list of the 50 most influential marijuana smokers on the Internet. Although, Clinton lied about his sexual escapades he also lied about not inhaling. We all know the purpose of smoking pot is to get high. You don't smoke it if you have no intention of getting a buzz.

I have written about my personal feelings about pot. I like my life straight. I am really happy with life as it is. I know that my kids and most of their friends smoke it.

Personally, I prefer to have a clear head. I am not anxious, depressed or unhappy. Many people smoke for those reasons. People also smoke to relieve PTSD.  I am open minded enough to see that marijuana can be beneficial if used wisely. For me, though, I have never been a stoner. I might have a glass of wine once or twice a year. I smoke pot even less. I have been offered to smoke hundreds of times and say no. When I do, it is a very rare occassion. Then it is only one puff and my kids have to pick me off the floor. The other downside that I have seen with pot smoking is that it opens holes up in the aura. When there are holes, the physical body and soul are without the normal protection. You can get attachments and entities on you from pot smoking.

I do however, recommend it to couples who are having challenges getting to orgasm. Pot has it's place. I like a clear head to write, meditate and live.

What Pot Does To Your Body

Smoking weed can make you incredibly aware of your sexuality. You may feel tingling in your vagina, breasts and a heightened awareness of everything. It can relax you. It could also make you incredibly sleepy and dopey, depending on the strain.

Pot releases oxytocin in the body in great doses. Oxytocin is released upon sexual arousal, during breast feeding and labor. Oxytocin is the feel good hormone also known as the cuddle hormone.

The key is that pot is different with everyone. Your response could be different depending on your mood, partner and where you are physically.

Multiple Orgasms

My first experience having a multiple orgasm was while smoking pot. My senses were enhanced. I relaxed and my inhibitions fell by the wayside. This was well over 20 years ago, so my remembrance of all the details are hazy. That should make most people laugh. I do remember the sex though and the guy. It was the most amazing sexual experience I had had.

I had another experience while on a sales training for Lanier dictation equipment, also while in Canada. Our whole sales force was taken to a lodge where we had a hay ride, and I had quite the roll in the hay!

For women who are uptight and non-orgasmic, marijuana could be THE TOOL used to lighten your mood and relax. However, the downside of smoking the green stuff is that if you are afraid, it will heighten your paranoia. If you feel quirky, it will heighten your quirkiness. Whatever mood you happen to be in, will be raised up to the power of 10, especially if you don't smoke it regularly.

Pot is a way to help a woman loosen up and get beyond her road blocks about orgasm and sex. It certainly worked for me.

Best Sativas for energy: Flow and Skunk 1 (very stinky)

Relaxing Sex: Blueberry

The rest are not for the faint of heart. The names, I did not come up with. So forgive me......   A few flying "F" words.

The following is an excerpt from an article on ALTNET's home page:

What’s in a name, you ask?- Some strains, by name alone, suggest a fun roll in the hay, like: “Fucking Incredible,” “Burmese Fucking Incredible” and“Matanuska Thunder Fuck.”
Just like Viagra- What strains are specifically heralded for their Viagra-like effects?   For seduction and mental wooing, Kirkman recommends “Voodoo” as the key to unlocking unbridled passion. To unleash the sexual beast within, Kirkman recommends “Godbud,” and “ Afghani Bullrider.”
