My Latest Discovery About Trees: California Coastal Roadtip

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

I am in love! I have always loved the beach, but this weekend on an impromptu road trip, I found that the ocean is fabulous for rejuvenating, recharging and grounding, but nothing beats a forest for filling and feeding your soul.

On Saturday morning, I woke up with a whisper in my head, "Morrow Bay!" I weighed the value of visiting a new place versus going back to my old favorite, Hendrey's Beach in Santa Barbara. New won. I mapped the fastest route for us, almost four hours versus two-and-a-half. Still, the whisper of Morrow Bay continued to ring in my ears.

I loaded up a change of clothes and booked a motel 6 in Morrow Bay, California for my dogs and me. It was far from a budget weekend, being so close to the ocean, but the destination was a perfect balance between San Louis Obispo and San Simeon and the Hearst Castle. There was plenty to see and do.

The drive through the desert town of Bakersfield and the wine country was uneventful, monotonous even, so different than driving through Valencia, Fillmore and Santa Paula towards SantaBarbara. I drove by dead almond trees, thousands of which had been cut waiting to be ground up for mulch. Eventually, we arrived in Paso Robles wine country with hundreds, of acres of vineyards. I doubled back to stop at an avocado ranch for some huge fresh-piked Haas avocados.

We arrived in Morrow Bay after almost four hours of driving. We drove around the bay and headed for a quiet dog-friendly beach. The temperatures on the coast were thirty degrees lower than at home in the Mojave Desert; the cool breeze was welcome.

On our way northward to Hearst Castle, we stopped for pie in the quaint, artsy town of Cambria, at Linn's. The home of the famous olallieberry pie. It was tasty, not too sweet, but the crust was lacking the crispy texture that I prefer. I give their pie a 3 out of 5
because of the crust. Kohnen's Bakery in Tehachapi has the best pie I have ever had from California to Colorado.

We drove northward to the Hearst Castle, arriving right at closing time -  5:00 PM. I wasn't up for the entire tour and didn't want to leave my dogs in the car for two hours anyway.

Only four miles further north on PCH 1 was a viewing spot for elephant seals. Both dogs were quite intrigued by the huge mammals sunning themselves on the beach. One huge bull tossed flipper after flipper full of sand over his blubbery body.

San Simeon coastline, California Route 1
Seeing these basking sea creatures in person is an incredible and exciting sight. We arrived shortly after 5:00 PM. The sun was beginning to set which meant we had gorgeous views of the coastline after our visit with the elephant seals. The timing couldn't have been more perfect if I had planned it, which I didn't.

After an afternoon at the beach, a bath and a coastline drive, the dogs and I were pooped. After watching the sunset magnificently, we packed it in around 8:00 and headed for our motel.

Sunday morning was a cool 56 degrees; I had to put on a pair of jeans. The light windbreaker I brought with me wasn't enough for the morning ocean air. We headed south about twenty-five minutes
arriving in San Louis Obispo after watching the sun rise over the mountains on our way down through the passes. On our way back to Morrow Bay we found ourselves at a virtually unknown campground Cerro Alto in San Louis Obispo County just twenty minutes from Morrow Bay.

Entering the floor of the canyon surrounded by mountains on either side, the tree canopy welcomed us. Early in the morning, quiet except for the chattering of Jays, nuthatches, and tapping of woodpeckers the birds were undisturbed by our presence flitting and chattering among the tall branches. A dark brown bunny darted into the thicket on the side of the road as we approached. I had never seen a rabbit so brown in the wild.

The sunlight streaming through the overhead canopy and heady fragrance of fresh earth, composted leaves, fresh greenery was soothing to my soul. Ferns, poison ivy, and wildflowers dotted the underbrush. Several trees were laden with Spanish moss that I hadn't seen since I left Georgia.

I had forgotten how much I loved being surrounded by trees. The beach takes second place to being surrounded by a rich green canopy of huge 50-foot trees. I didn't realize how much my soul missed trees. Living in the desert, I have to go to a park to be around trees; they are few and far between.

The blanket of green enveloping me lifted my spirits. Breathing in the quiet, unplugging from my cell phone, computer and clients was exactly what my soul needed. No one to talk to. No one's problems to hear. Just me and the forest. My love affair is with the earth, one that forever supports me in my health, fulfillment, and connection. The twisted tree limbs overhead were magnificent and powerful. I get high being in nature naturally

The undergrowth and poison ivy tinged with pink and red, berries on the ends of limbs laden with food for the birds to overwinter. A muffled snort in the gully below us surprised both dogs. Their ears pricked up, as they stood stock still. I listened again for the rustling of leaves of branches breaking. A large buck snorted again and walked slowly into the thicket.

Mountain lions frequent the high mountains but visit campgrounds on occasion. We have to stay alert walking in nature, as it is the home of so many wild creatures. Part of the excitement of being in nature is that you never know what you will see or hear. Being awake and alert focused on the moment deepens your experience.

I lay on a grassy hillside among golden stalks ready to drop their seeds for next year. The dark green leaves overhead in the clear blue sky created a beautiful contrast as the Jays chattered and flitted from one tree to the next. Four woodpeckers flew over me, and I closed my eyes breathing deeply. My lungs expanded in the cool fresh air. I felt so grateful.

I love the beach. Trees bring a fulfillment that the beach cannot. We need a balance of both, water and wood to feed our soul. On this weekend I had the magic of both, and I am so grateful for all that I experienced. I returned home ready to be fully present and compassionate for my clients because I took care of my soul.

5 Ways To Create A Sense of Childlike Wonder Every Day

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Most children till the age of seven, remember their past lives, other parents and what it feels like to be connected to Source, heaven, and unbounded joy. Children also have a sense of wonder about everything. Keeping our childlike wonder alive allows us to find the beauty in each moment which opens us up for more pleasure. Do your best to rekindle wonder to feel more joy, create and experience beauty and pleasure.

1. Ignite your senses. Notice the wind, the sun, the moon, the stars and the beauty in the smallest things. Butterflies, birds, clouds, plants, and trees have innate beauty and can shift your perspective if you stop multi-tasking for a moment to see them. Nature has so much to teach us about living in the moment and seeing the beauty in it.

Nature is here for us to witness and enjoy. You can get high on life when you begin to witness each moment, finding the beauty in life and the earth. Feel the rain on your skin. Listen to the wind, feel the effect on your skin, notice different temperatures during your commute. It is surprising how often temperatures change when we drive down into a valley. Feel the coolness and enjoy what your eyes can see.

We have more than six senses. How many do you use each day? What do you hear, see, smell, taste, sense or feel when you walk by a blooming rose bush. Take a moment to smell the roses. Do you notice the joy that trees express when they are in full bloom? Everything has a consciousness. What can you sense about the plants and trees or animals around you?

Do you notice the praying mantis on your porch? Do you see the hummingbird looking in your window? Acknowledge them, send your love to all you see and feel it returned to you ten-fold. Life is sacred, enjoy each moment.

We are sexual beings.

Breathing in our external experiences allows us to enjoy our sexual experiences with our partners more as well.

2. Do one thing at a time. Take a walk outside and leave your cell phone at home. With all of the technological advancements, we have to make a concentrated effort to connect with our environment to avoid being totally disconnected from who we are. We are part of nature. We are not computers or robots. Experience each moment by doing one thing at a time. Multi-tasking disconnects us from Source and experiencing this moment now. Getting outdoors more often helps us alleviate stress, boosts our immune system and keeps us feeling healthy and happy.

3. Touch nature. Sit on a rock, the grass or the earth to ground yourself. Feel the pulse of the earth running through your body. Close your eyes and inhale deeply. Enjoy what beauty is in the air for you to feel on your skin and smell as you inhale.

4. Enjoy a meal al fresco. Combining food and an outdoor experience is a fun way to experience nature doing something you enjoy - eating! Eat lunch in a park or pack a picnic and enjoy a meal with your family. Outdoor dining feels so good, as it increases telomere strength giving you your daily dose of Vitamin D. Sunlight alleviates depression and makes us feel good.

5. Bring nature home. Hummingbirds are beautiful to watch and bring us joy. A simple combination of 1:3 sugar to water creates a syrup that will bring hummingbirds closer to you. There is nothing so beautiful yet so simple as watching hummingbirds at your window.

During the winter birds can starve when cold weather comes.

Buy a houseplant to purify the air in your home. You will be surprised how having just one plant inside your home will shift the energy. Plants are living things. Bring nature home and heighten your sense of wonder and your connection with all that is daily.

We gain wisdom as we heal and transform our pain into joy. It is possible; I have done it myself. I had tremendous pain and suffering as you did in my childhood. I felt like a victim for over thirty years. Today, I thrive on solitude and quiet. I am happy alone or with a crowd. I feel comfortable in my skin and trust my Guidance. If you are ready to overcome your pain, suffering, and struggle, over thirty years. Today, I thrive on solitude and quiet. I am happy alone or

with a crowd. I feel comfortable in my skin and trust my Guidance. If you are ready to overcome your pain, suffering, and struggle, why don't you contact me now?

Strange and Mystical Experiences

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Untouched photo taken on Malibu Beach

I have been working on myself since I was thirty-two. Without giving away my exact age, it has been decades of deep introspection and inner work. In the process of healing, I began to meditate almost daily. When I was in Colorado, I often meditated remotely with a friend several times a day. My connection to Spirit, The Divine and nature is strong.

Following are some experiences that have occurred. Perhaps telling my story will help you recognize how powerful some of your experiences have been as well.

I am constantly Guided. When I drive I get messages. Walking into a store I am given Guidance about who needs love, a kindness or a smile, or who I need to talk to. I might stop and talk to someone that feels sad. Each time I do, they receive a healing through my eyes, voice or a touch. Animals feel my energy and are drawn to me even when they are wild.

In Colorado, I have been guided to stop at one particular rest area on I-70 called Bair Ranch. Twice I have witnessed bald eagles that flew over me. One circled back around three times before leaving the
area. A bald eagle flyover is no small thing. I have only witnessed bald eagles four times in my life. One was taking a drink on the Colorado River bank, that I just "happened" to glance at while driving by at 75 miles per hour.

The Bair Ranch rest stop is a beautiful spot alongside the Colorado river, nestled between snow-capped Rocky mountains.

On my last trip to Colorado in April, I asked how I could get a photo of Yoda and me at the Bair Ranch rest stop? As we walked into the open field along the Colorado River, I saw a man and a woman with a movie camera. We exchanged warm greetings as I walked my dogs. Yoda was having his photo taken by the dark-haired man named Mark when I turned around.

I asked if he would mind taking our photo. He instantly took a liking to my little dog. It turned out Mark Dexter was a professional photographer. What are the chances that a professional cinemotographer would be at the exact rest stop at the exact time that we stopped on our 19-hour plus drive? Maybe less than 1%? His partner, Karen is a floral designer who owns a shop in Castle Rock, Colorado with a focus on weddings.

It was interesting to me, someone who helps people find love, attracted two professionals who cater to those getting married in
their work. Strange? Not for me. This is the type of thing that happens wherever I go. People are on my path that I need to meet.

Grand Canyon Suprises

Sunrise at The Grand Canyon
On my daughter's and my first trip to The Grand Canyon in 2013, I parked at the side of the road to sleep. I was so tired I just couldn't drive any further. I had no idea how close we were to the park entrance when we stopped. At 4:30 in the morning, cars began to whiz by us. I wondered where they were going at that hour. Then it occurred to me! The Grand Canyon at sunrise! Holy cow! I woke Ariel up and told Ariel "We're going to be at The Grand Canyon at sunrise!"

We drove through the park entrance for FREE because the gates were wide open, no one was there to charge us. I recognized the gift in this and said a prayer of gratitude, not just for the free entrance but the experience of witnessing the sun coming up over such a grand expansive place.

While at The Grand Canyon, we walked through an area, looking for rest rooms. There is always something else going on that is more important than what we ostensibly thought. A group of elk were struggling to get water out of a dribbling spiggot. I walked up and turned the faucet on, cupping my hands four elk drank out of my hands without incident. I am still looking for the images to post of these beautiful animals that Ariel took.

Twenty people took photos of me allowing the elk to drink out of my hands, till a crazy young ranger bristled up and yelled at me loudly. The elk had been very peaceable and grateful for the water. Arizona is a very dry place. Water is hard to come by.

On a trip through Estes Park, a group of elk were along the roadside. As our car approached they began to cross the road. One cow walked alongside our car and stuck her head in our car window. The video Ariel and I shot isn't great, but shows how close she was to our dogs. Yoda was absolutely terrified as he sat on Ariel's lap, right next to the huge animal. Animals are attracted to my energy. They aren't afraid of me.

I have had bear cubs stop on the road in front of my car in Georgia, deer in Colorado do the same thing. Dogs on trails come right to me and give me information through images about their death, or how they came to their family.

Bi-locating to another state

One afternoon in Boulder, Colorado, I began to feel so tired, I couldn't keep my eyes opened. As I lay down on my bed, my body began to de-materialize as if in Star Trek "Beam me up Scotty!" I fell into a deep sleep.

My son David reported seeing me that day, in May 2012, on a pool deck in Atlanta, Georgia over 700 miles away in my landscaper's outfit.

I have endless stories about horses, dogs, people who are drawn to me, or do things they have never done in my presence. I hope you will share yours below or on FaceBook. If you are interested, I will share others next week.

Everyone receives Guidance. We just need to be open to feel, see and know. The more loving our energy becomes, the more safe animals feel in our presence. The less conflict that resides internally, the more peaceful our energy becomes. This is work I assist my clients do.

Depression and Anger an Unlikely Duo?

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

When I was a little girl, I was left with a babysitter who was rageful, controlling and aggressive. I was raised to do what my elders told me. I didn't question, I was like a little mouse. It was easy for me to be molested. I didn't know how to stand up for myself or fight back. For those that know me today, that doesn't seem possible. I am quite capable of speaking my truth and don't hesitate to do so. Both my parents used child-rearing techniques from their childhood. We were taught to do as they said. We were in fear of doing otherwise.

How Does Rage Develop?

Rage can develop a number of ways. We can witness a parent being beaten, raped or abused. We can witness a parent drinking themselves into oblivion and watch them lie on the floor in a coma. We can be pushed around by people older, stronger and more powerful than we are. If we feel helpless and defenseless, we feel powerless. Powerlessness leads to feelings of deep rage. All of these events make us feel helpless. Helplessness and feelings of powerlessness with no ability to fend off, defend or change events leads to anger and quite possibly rage.

Anger Bubbles Up

We have been programmed with a valve to allow intense feelings to burst out and pop to the surface. If we continue to push down these feelings they get shoved deep into the cells, and unconscious where they show up in our partners that we attract. Or perhaps in a feeling of futility.

The Five Biggest Relationship Killers and Their Solutions

Un-Healed Anger and Resentment

Sometimes we take our anger out on our spouses. Sometimes we unleash our anger out on our children. We are human after all. However, the damage done to a child's or partner's self esteem by unleashing our anger on another could be devastating. In fact, fear can creep into the relationship when someone becomes rageful. When this happens sex flies out the window. It isn't comfortable to be intimate with someone we are afraid of.

Nagging Causes Anger

Nagging can be a source of anger for men. Sometimes when women want something done and it isn't being completed, nagging seems to be the only way. Unfortunately. Nagging is a relationship killer. 9 Reasons Men Cheat.  (Keeping him thrilled.)

If anger is allowed to continue to steep without being released, via healthy means, either cathartic screaming, through hypnotherapy or energy clearing our anger and resentment can show up in our body as cancer, bursitis, blackheads, belly fat, mononucleosis, boils and a slew of other health-related issues that come from our thoughts and trapped emotions.

3 Ways To Overcome Chaos By Living Simply

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Life can throw us some curve balls. Living simply offers us a peace that removes us from the chaos. 2016 may already be offering many different opportunities from that of 2015. Choosing what is best for us requires us to be present, tapping into our physical bodies for confirmation.

If you are out in the world you may be feeling a sense of chaos, energy coming at you from all directions. There are too many choices in the grocery store, too many tasks to complete, too many things undone, which all drain our precious energy. Life is short. Let's make the most of this New Year by living simply.

How Can You Simplify?

Today in our technical age we walk out the door with our phone in hand. Working at our desks we have our phone right beside us. We answer it whenever it rings. Do we really need to? Each interruption takes us away from having clarity and focus. Interruptions cause stress. Do we need to be on the phone while driving? NO, we don't. Stop answering the phone when you are in the middle of something. If the call is important, they will leave a voice mail. If it wasn't, there is no loss.

Driving in the car is a time we need to focus and be present on what is happening in front of us. In 2016, there is an increased energy of chaos. Chaotic energy can cause accidents. We need to focus on one thing at a time.

Multi-Tasking

Multi-tasking reduces productivity by 40%. You cannot focus effectively on several things at once. There is a serious downside to this new age of high tech computer, smartphone working. Seriously consider giving up multi-tasking this year. It doesn't help, it actually hurts you in the following ways:

  1. creates mental blocks that reduce productivity by 40%
  2. causes stress physically, mentally and emotionally
  3. diverts your attention from your goals in life
  4. you don't perform even one task effectively when you are focusing on several
  5. lowers IQ
  6. reduces memory
  7. causes errors
  8. you have to regroup each time you shift from one task to another taking precious time
  9. takes longer to perform the task when multi-tasking.

Relaxing

When my daughter was living with me, we would often sit down to watch a comedian, my favorite thing to watch to unwind. I would focus on the comedian while she had her iPad and cell phone with her flipping from one screen to another. Just watching her doing this activity irritated me. My son watches several televisions when he watches football. Any activity for relaxing needs to be just singular. Otherwise, you are causing stress in your body. This overactivity causes anxiety, then young people turn to smoking pot to relieve their stress.

Meditation

When meditating you can't be taking notes, answering text messages or sending e-mails. It doesn't work that way. To be in silence and stillness to calm the body and mind we need to be totally present. Doing absolutely nothing but breathing in silence and stillness for it to be effective.

Multi-Tasking During Sex

I'm sorry, but cooking breakfast in front of your children while your partner plows you from behind is not good for anyone. Seriously! Yes, people have told me they do it. We can't give fully to our partners when we are thinking of anything else, answering a phone or watching a television program while having sex.

How To Live Simply

  1. Have rules for everyone in the household that create presence and focus, i.e. no cell phones at the table, in the bedroom or while watching television.
  2. One activity at a time. Does your child really need ballet, karate, cello and religious classes all at the same time? Seriously? When do they get to be a child? Our childhood is short keep activities down to one.
  3. Get outside and be in nature. Leave your cell phone in the car. Walk in silence. Focus on what you see rather than texting everyone you know while doing your constitutional. This is time with you and God. It is time for you to reconnect with your body. Experience this beauty fully.
  4. You only need one cell phone. Rather than replacing it as soon as a new one comes out use it till the thing dies. Striving for the latest and greatest is living outside of your body. You don't feel enough just by being you.
  5. Focus on you for a change rather than stuff.
  6. Write in your journal. Sitting down and writing is a very positive way to connect with Guidance and your High Self. Do it daily.
  7. Focus on what you are FEELING. Most people have no idea how they feel because they are doing too many things to even notice.
  8. Meditate daily.
  9. Exercise daily.
  10. Love Yourself. This is the simplest and best part of living fully. When you love yourself you will find that the world is a brighter place and that you have infinitely more love to give everyone in your life and the world. Loving you also raises the energy of the planet, so you are doing something to help all of humanity by loving you.
  11. Connect to your soul purpose. Do what you love. You have a story inside you. You have done great things in your life. Consider doing work that engages your soul and your heart.
Doing work you love creates more joy and bliss than you can image. Have you seen my smile? It isn't fake. I am so happy, I want to share it with the world. Help me do this by sharing my blog, my app and what I do with your friends.

Experiencing A Close Encounter With An Elk

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park Colorado

I love nature. There is nothing like being outside and connecting with wildlife and trekking up to the top of a mountain at 12,000 feet above sea level.

Being with my family, is another event that brings me great joy. Sunday, I spent a beautiful day with my daughter and her boyfriend. It was one of the loveliest of days - spectacular, actually. I would like to share it with you. We saw deer, elk and a flying squirrel. Walked to the top of a mountain at 12,000 feet and had a close encounter with an elk.

If you have missed reading my posts, I have been spending much needed time with my daughter before I return to California and she heads off to begin college.

The drive to Longs Peak is treacherous, with thousands of feet below and no guard rail, it is a scary drive up to the top. Ariel drove up and I drove back down. At the top of the mountain, though the temperatures were in the high 80's in Boulder, they were more like 35- 40 degrees with the wind chill. The wind whipped your hair and made it stand on end.

11,000 feet above sea level. Cold, windy and above the tree line. The only thing that lives up here are alpine grasses, and alpine flowers, which are low growing and very rich.
