Can You Live WIthout Affection?

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Humans need touch to thrive. Unless you have a close connection with your partner, you are probably not getting enough affection. After years of marriage, many people stop having sex, and rarely touch each other. This is just sad. When we don't get love and attention from our partner, we can feel very alone and lonely within our relationship.

Do you hug people when you first meet? I do. I am a hugger. When an outstretched hand is offered, I rarely shake it, instead I walk forward and hug the unsuspecting soul. I like to hug and connect heart-to-heart with left arm up over the other person's shoulder. This way when we hug, our heart's connect.

I recently went on a shopping expedition, at a store in Denver. I was sent there by a dear client. I rarely shop, but when I do, I buy several things at a time. I spent several hours trying on different clothes and outfits to find just the right thing. After I paid for my purchases, the owner of the shop came around the counter and said to me, "What fun I had helping you. You were so OPEN." She hugged me good-bye as she had enjoyed helping me as much as I had enjoyed shopping. A hug signals acceptance. A hug shows you that you are loved.

We just don't hug enough. We don't touch each other enough either. Whether you are an adult, a teenager or a senior citizen, you are not getting the touch you need to thrive. Our animals need touch to thrive as well. When we live alone, having a cat to hug or dog to embrace, can also fill the need for touch. When we are touched and hugged our immune system is bolstered. We feel better. Our neurological system is calmed down through touch.

Babies die even when their needs are met, but there is no cuddling, stroking or skin-to-skin contact. Dr. Rene Spitz was concerned in the 1940's when the babies left in her care and in a sterile environment were dying. They were fed, changed, bathed. Yet, they were dying. She discovered that they were not being touched, stroked and were devoid of skin-to-skin contact.

Love and affection go together. We need the touch of a caring hand, a kind look from someone who loves us and hugs to actually thrive.

When we are not in a relationship, hugs or having a hand to hold or someone to share life with seems like a far away dream. Even when we begin to date, affection may not be a part of the dating process. Sex can be present, but affection absent. Kindness, a loving touch, someone to listen to you and look at you when you are speaking all shows caring. Taking time to get to know someone will allow affection a place. Sex does not replace affection. Affection comes first, when you allow a relationship to grow naturally, rather than pushing to have your sexual needs met by a complete stranger.

Lonely in Marriage

Often when we have been with someone a long time, affection goes out the window. What replaces affection can be silence, avoidance and we can feel lonely within our relationship. But it doesn't have to.

The next time you pass your partner sitting at the table, touch them. Stroke the back of their hand, or put your hands on their
shoulders. Or how about offering a shoulder rub, or a foot massage. There are all kinds of ways to touch each other to show love that are non-sexual.

As we age, affection replaces sex. We may still be sexually active, but the frequency may be reduced. Instead of every day, or three times a week, we may begin to have sex every other week, or every three weeks. With the reduction in sexual activity, we need additional touch. We can sit on the opposite ends of the couch together and rub each other's feet while we talk about our work day.  We can hold hands when walking through the mall, or town. Our society is void of touch. This lack of touch makes us feel disconnected.

We are high tech and low touch. But the human need remains.

We spend hours on the Internet talking to "friends" on FaceBook, that we don't even know. How about shutting off the computer and your phone and sitting and holding each other on the couch and talking for a change? Connect heart-to-heart and massage each other's hands. Or how about something
completely different: lie spooning on the couch and watch a movie together? Spooning with your partner will give you the benefit of more than 12 hugs before the movie is over. You might be surprised what pops up between you!

10 Reasons You Need Touch

  1. Being hugged and touched reduces anxiety.
  2. You feel more confident when you are being touched.
  3. You feel accepted.
  4. You feel connected to others.
  5. You are being validated unconsciously by being hugged and touched.
  6. You bond with others through touch. It is the way we become more connected in our relationships with our children, and partners. Over time, some people touch less. Touch is something we need to work on and remember. It keeps us close. It keeps us bonded. Teens need touch and hugs too.
  7. Your immune system functions better when you are touched.
  8. Lowers blood pressure.
  9. Improves your outlook. Makes you feel more positive.
  10. Many of us are sensory deprived. All senses need to be expressed for healthy brain output. Feeling a soft blanket, walking through sand, soaking in a hot tub, or slipping into freshly washed sheets.

For those of you who are lonely and alone. You would be surprised who will hug you when you need it. Be open to receive. Take my Love Yourself Fearlessly course and find yourself being open to a new experience. By the 4th week, I have had many people find the love they have been looking for, right in front of them. Know that you are never alone.

Attracting THE ONE!

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Love. Is is what we all want, search for and many crave. Women miss it when they don't have it. Women wonder each time they have a date with a new man, "Is he THE ONE?"

Women are notorious for spinning tales in their heads about weddings and engagements as early as the first date. Why is it we spend so much time thinking about it, but can't seem to find it?

What I tell my clients is that when you begin to act as if you already have love, rather than searching and feeling empty you will find it. The way the Universe works is that we must begin to already be grateful for having love in our lives. We must feel full of love within ourselves first. We must give love to ourselves first.
When we begin to love ourselves, as we are, completely and unconditionally rather than waiting till we are absolutely perfect, love will come barreling in and knock us off our feet, when we stop looking.

STOP LOOKING????

Yes. We have to stop looking. When we are looking we are telling the Universe that we have nothing. We have no one. The more we focus on wanting a man or woman, the more we come up empty. We are focusing on the "NOT HAVING." Instead focus on the love you have - with YOU!

We have to spend time nurturing ourselves. We have to love the parts of ourselves that we have been so critical of in the past.

LET GO OF THE PAST

We have to get rid of old photos of ex-husbands from the mantel, and remove albums and treasures from old lovers. We have to let go of the past. We need to stop talking about who hurt us and how badly. When we keep talking about pain, we will attract another who will hurt us again.

Each event in our lives leads us along the road of life. Recognizing that the events that we have experienced teach us more about ourselves. They are not wrong or bad, just experiences. We need to be grateful for the lesson learned and the gift. Every experience and relationship has taught us more about ourselves. We need to turn our focus inward, rather than focusing on blame of our ex-husband or mate.

FORGIVE

Part of letting go of the past is to forgive ourselves for attracting our previous partners into our lives. We have to forgive ourselves and we have to forgive the other person. The easiest and quickest way to forgive is to use the Ho'oponopono Prayer.

I am sorry
Please forgive me
I love you
Thank you

MAKE ROOM

After you have forgiven yourself and everyone you have attracted into your life, it is time to begin to make room in closets. Begin to act as if he/she is already present in your life.

LOVING YOU FIRST

People that go through my Love Yourself Fearlessly course are finding their Divine Partner before they finish the course in many cases. The simple act of beginning to love yourself makes you a magnet for love. It is a rare individual that can do this on their own. It took me over 30 years. Loving yourself is not as simple as saying, "Oh I love myself!" Answer the following questions to see if you love you.

Self Love I Q
  1. When in a relationship you continue your exercise routine as usual.
  2. When in a relationship you continue spending just as much time with family and friends.
  3. When in a relationship you put yourself first taking time to nurture yourself, rest, get your nails done and do your errands before spending time with your new love.
  4. You feel confident, strong and independent even when he doesn't call.
  5. You remain balanced, taking a new relationship slowly, getting to know your new person, rather than jumping into bed on the first or second date.
  6. You are able to tell your new love what you want, don't want and make unpopular decisions without fear of losing them.
  7. When you are away from your new love, you are able to fill your time and focus on other things.
  8. When asked by your new love, you are able to recommend your favorite restaurants, music you like.
  9. You are able to show up always as your authentic true self.
  10. You do not try to act the way you think they want you to be.
  11. You have healthy boundaries. You do not give more than you are physically able, keeping work, exercise, family and friends in balance.
  12. You feel confident even when your new love talks to those of the opposite sex.
  13. You are able to wait until he calls you, after having a fabulous time on the first date.

If you answered more than 8 questions with a "NO" you need to focus on loving and accepting yourself as you are. I have some very good programs private and work at your own pace to help you do this. I also have some really great tools to bring in THE ONE, by the forth week. I have had great success. In fact one radio show host did the fourth week and manifested her ONE the very next day!

Looking For The Perfect Relationship?

As Featured On EzineArticles By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Everyone wants to love and be loved. Yet, the perfect idyllic love of childhood books is only found in the fantasy section of Barnes and Noble.

The people who cause us the greatest pain, have committed to help us heal in this lifetime.

I hear it all the time; "When will my Soul Mate show up in my life? I have been waiting so long." Women and men wait and long for the perfect partner that doesn't fart or burp and says the perfect thing at the right time. Women long for the gorgeous hunk of a man with the six-pack and men long for the buxom blond who is intelligent and savvy, yet a tigress in the bedroom.  Why are we still sitting in front of our television sets watching romantic movies all alone?

There is no doubt that the greatest hurts are caused by those we love. Thinking that there is ONE person for us, will cause us to continue to wait. For we can only attract that which we have inside of us. We all vibrate at a certain level and attract those who vibrate at a similar level to us. It is the old, "birds of a feather theme all over again. We attract what we are. We attract what we think. We attract those who will reflect our deepest inner issues right back in our face. Those who show up in our lives teach us the lessons we need to learn.

Our partners show up and act like the saucer of the tea cup. Fitting perfectly with us. We fall in love quickly and then just as quickly realize that, "Oh he smells bad!" or "She drinks."

I recently was at a mixer of single people in Santa Monica, California. Most of the people were between the ages of 40 and 58. You would expect that they would be mature and have their feet firmly planted on the ground. I was asked to dance by a tall thin man. He emitted low self esteem from his aura. While dancing I talked to him asking about himself. Was he married? "Never!" I asked him, why he didn't marry the one he fell in love with. He replied, "She had issues." The fact that this insecure man was looking for someone without issues of their own, was very telling. We tend to not smell our own poop. He could not see the forest for the trees. He did not recognize that he had his own issues. He wanted perfection. Yet he was far from it himself.

Whatever our greatest lessons are in this lifetime, someone will show up that will illustrate our lessons for us. If we have issues with low self esteem, partners will show up and teach us how little we value ourselves. They may victimize disrespect, or abuse us. People will show up that teach us what we need to learn about ourselves.

Waiting for your Soul Mate or Twin Flame to show up? You may be missing out on other opportunities if you push people away who show up in front of you now. When you focus on their imperfections saying they aren't perfect could leave you standing at the train station waiting for Mr. Right to come along for a very long time. You are missing the point.

If you are looking for perfection, are you perfect? If you are looking for a supportive, loving person who will love, honor and cherish you no matter what, are you those things? There is no such thing as the PERFECT partner. No one is perfect. Each and every one of us has issues and challenges that we are working through. To think that there is only ONE person for us, is limiting and simply not true.

Soul Mates

If you are looking for the romantic love, of a Disney movie, it does not exist. For that romance is make believe. If you want a white knight in shining armor to sweep you off your feet and carry you out of your office building placing his helmet on your head, it won't happen. Soul Mates are people who push our buttons. They bring up our issues and challenge us on a very deep level. Soul Mate relationships are the most challenging that we can have. They are not perfect.

Twin Flames

A Twin Flame is someone who is actually part of your soul. When we meet them, we finish each other's thoughts. We feel such a deep and profound connection, that others feel it as well.

The love between you and your Twin Flame is earth shattering. That is the good news. Twin Flames show up to teach us something profound about ourselves. The lesson is particularly difficult and challenging. Twin Flames are only here with us for a very short time, they may even be married to someone else. Mine was single and with me for three months before he died in my arms. (Read more about it in Odyssey Victim to Victory) He was the first person to love me unconditionally. He taught me what REAL unconditional acceptance and love felt like. So that I would know it when it happened again.

I have done readings for several people who had experienced their Twin Flames, like me. Several were married to other people. Another sad story was one of the pain of death. The pain of this experience to find someone that they were so deeply connected to, but could not be with was excruciatingly painful. To lose such a person, or not to be able to be with them is heart-wrenching.

The idyllic fantasy of the perfect love does not exist because in the end, we are humans. We have faults, and bad breath in the morning. Sometimes we smell bad and say things that hurt the other.  The truth is we are all works in progress. We learn and grow from each and every experience we have, including our relationships. When we are in a relationship we grow much faster than when we are alone. We are triggered often. Our issues come to the surface faster. We can't run away from our issues, unless we end the relationship. To continue to look and wait for THE ONE may mean you are alone instead of learning and growing with someone who may be just what you need.

All relationships work better when each partner loves themselves. Coming from a place of lack, self doubt or feeling unworthy brings neediness into the relationship. It is impossible for another to fill you, when you are not able to fulfill yourself. Check out Jennifer's courses on Self Love.

Living Authentically

Living Authentically

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters July 14, 2013
Jennifer Elizabeth Masters, Grand Canyon, AZ 5/24/2013

Life is good. It is real good. It has not always been this way for me. I struggled with issues of guilt, self hatred and shame from early childhood. Even into adulthood I often felt ashamed of myself and I certainly wasn't happy. It did not matter how beautiful someone said I looked, I did not feel beautiful. In fact I felt ugly, dirty, unworthy, unlovable and lost.

I now refer to those days as my old life, it feels so foreign to me now. I so wanted to be loved that I had to be in a relationship to feel whole. I felt like a three-legged table without someone in my life. I felt empty inside, depressed and negative. I needed someone to do what I couldn't do, love me. With each new man I hoped that he was THE ONE, my TRUE LOVE.  I spent unwisely when I was upset. I would use money allocated for rent, or utilities for clothes for myself. It was a compulsion. It seemed to be the only thing that made me feel better, if only for an hour or two. When I got paid the first thing I would do was to go and buy myself something expensive to make myself feel better. I had heard that it was important to feel good and we certainly were in a hedonistic society where making yourself feel better was supported by the media. Newer, bigger better was prevalent in all the commercials and billboards. I was not responsible for myself or my spending.
For Heaven Scapes, with my kids

I maxed out my credit cards and then could not make my payments. My behavior created more issues as I was not being a good steward of my money. I complained about my life because it really did suck! I had no idea that what I was doing was perpetuating more negativity and lack into my life. I had no idea that my money problems were being created by me and the thoughts that I was thinking. I was so shamed filled and negative that it made me physically ill.

Sexual abuse in my childhood created shame, anger and guilt. I had no idea that I had inner rage that was being suppressed. The history of bladder infections from the time I was 21 was a sign of being pissed off, but at that time, I was totally unconscious (not awake and aware) and had no idea that my anger about the molestation created it. I was chronically depressed until I was in my 40s. I suffered from insomnia due to the depression. It was not until I began my healing process and began to heal my inner child and let go of the shame and self loathing that the depression lifted. It was tied to my repressed anger, I did not know was there. I did not know that repressed anger caused depression. Oh my God! When I released the anger I began to sleep better. The depression lifted. It was not a pill that made it go away, it was letting go of the past.

The Path Of A Seeker

As I went to a hypnotherapist or healer for an issue and found out how magically and wonderfully it worked, I would sign up for the course and become certified in it. By the time I was 48 I had taken so many classes, courses and certifications I had the equivalent of a University education. Certainly every bit as costly. It was worth every penny. No amount of therapy or anti-depressants gave me the relief that getting to know who I was and loving myself as I was, did. I began to live in my truth, and followed my heart. I became a healer and certified life coach full time. I was passionate about healing and helping others to love themselves. I saw how it transformed my entire life.

Coming Into Alignment

Flagstaff Mtn. Boulder Colorado Jennifer

It was not a matter of me changing who I was. It was coming into alignment with my true self. Instead of being agreeable all the time, I said, "NO!" I began to take better care of my own needs, getting enough rest and meditating regularly. Instead of being with people who were negative, I steered clear of them, even if they were family. Especially if they were family. Changing patterns of behavior meant for me that I could not spend much time with those that helped me create my co-dependence. I healed my relationships with all of them. I forgave everyone. I knew they would never change. They were not on the path I was on. That was their choice. They expected me to be the same, but I wasn't. I am reminded of the story of the crab who attempted to escape from the cooking pot, as he/she gets to the top of the pot, the others pull the poor sucker back down to be miserable with the rest of them. That is what happens with family who don't change. They want to make you as miserable as they are. You can't let that happen. I love my mother where she is. I know at 91, change ain't gonna happen. She is who she is. I have accepted that. I can't change another. I can only change myself.
Living in the moment Coronado, CA

Changing others is a sign of co-dependency. I have been there multiple times, worn the t-shirt and donated it to Goodwill about 15 years ago. I stopped dating men who need rehabilitating or rehab. It is a pointless waste of my time and energy. I used to make men my projects. It took me out of my own pain and suffering thinking I was helping them. I wasn't. That was my ego making up stories to get me from realizing how I was suffering inside.
My oldest son, Adam Gates and me, Boulder, CO 2013

I used to be afraid of my husband. I was afraid to say what I thought. I was afraid to go against his edicts. I capitulated when he strongly disciplined my sons, against my inner wishes. I caved. I gave in, I had no will of my own.  The fear led me to feel even more guilt-ridden and ashamed. I began to move through fear. Divorcing him gave me freedom, it also helped me realize he was my biggest teacher. Of course he wouldn't respect me, I didn't have respect for myself!

I learned along the way that our relationships are a mirror for ourselves. It is so much easier to blame another for what is going on in our lives than to focus on ourselves. Blame however, removes our responsibility. It takes our power away. When we step out of blame, it is a form of graduation. It raises us up to personal responsibility. When we become responsible for ourselves, we stop making excuses for being late not doing what we commit to. Excuses are dis-empowering. They reduce us in stature. Excuses are another form of blame. Blame is a low vibration as are guilt, shame and fear.

Moving from Boulder, CO to California 2013

Being who I am is easy now. It does not cause me suffering. I don't feel guilty for being me. I can speak my truth. I am able to stand up for my beliefs. I don't cave in when I feel something isn't right for myself or my family. I stand up tall and feel beautiful. I don't make excuses for who I am or what I say. When I make a rule for my daughter, I feel good about it, instead of apologetic or guilty. I used to feel bad when I made unpopular decisions for my family even when it was in every one's best interest. I don't feel guilty for anything anymore. I look 10 years younger than I did 10 years ago. I lost the 20 pounds that had hung on when I didn't feel good about myself, effortlessly. It is funny how everything works better when you love yourself completely.

I began to take what others would call risks. I began to really live in the moment. If I was driving down and road and saw something that looked interesting, I made a bee-line for it. I experienced beauty wherever I was. My daughter might groan at first, then she found herself enjoying the experience of spontaneity as well. Our life had more joy and wonderment living in the moment. Instead of planning everything, life took on an organic movement to it. Vacations became spontaneous. I trusted my inner guidance, and it never ever failed me. Selling my landscape business in 2011, moving from Georgia to Colorado were huge. After 1 year in Boulder, Colorado, and the death of Ariel's father, we needed a change. Listening to inner guidance, we moved to the Mojave desert in California. These decisions were made in the blink of an eye. We were packed and in California within two weeks of deciding. Confidence comes from living authentically. Standing in your truth. Being who you are, and LOVING WHO YOU ARE BEING. Living in the moment instead of the past or the future was part of my healing. Stepping into my BIG SELF, or my High Self became a natural and organic part of this transformation into enlightenment. Living authentically eradicates fear. I used to live in the gray area, of no decision. Wavering on life. It is very painful there. There is no peace when you live in the gray area. Not only do you hurt yourself when you are undecided, but you also hurt others. Living authentically and being true to yourself means that you are compassionate with yourself and others.
My handsome sons, Adam and David Gates
I stopped judging others and focused on myself and what I was experiencing. I began to live instead of exist. I spent time in Spiritual practice every day, without fail. Meditation began my day and gave me a solid foundation for success. Coming into stillness with myself was the calming influence that helped me begin my day from a place of peace and grounding that transcended the chaos that was my former life. I was grateful for everything I had. I learned to do without things I did not need. I only bought what gave me joy. I was much more careful with spending and liked my life clutter free. Nick-knacks and objects no longer were the focus, instead my relationships were always in the forefront of my mind. I only spent time with people I wanted to. I spent a lot of time alone. I regrouped and rebooted when I was alone. I made sure I got enough rest, healthy food and lots of laughter. I stopped watching the news 17 years ago. I had not read the newspaper since the 80's. I only watched comedies and movies that helped me grow. Documentaries and knowledge held the power for me. I was no longer static or stagnating. I was constantly growing and evolving. Learning and growing with each experience. When people criticized me, I listened and thought about what they said. I checked inside to feel if there was merit or truth in their words. I did not get upset with the messenger. I stopped taking things personally and my emotions no longer ruled my world. I stopped looking for THE ONE, at every turn years ago. I was happy with me and could be happy living the rest of my life by myself. I trusted that if it was to be, I would not have to look for it, he would find me.

Happiness and Joy

Happiness and joy was what I breathed. It replaced suffering and depression. Love filled my heart. The more I loved myself, the more love and happiness exuded from me. Instead of meeting a world of angry people, I found life to be joyous and a wonderful expression of me. I still experienced emotions deeply. Instead of repressing emotions I allowed myself to feel them fully and in moments they were gone. I became a magnet for new clients who wanted to work with me, because they could feel my energy. When I did psychic fairs clients told me repeatedly that they picked me because I felt so grounded. The higher I vibrated, the more money flowed in. I became fearless, which aligned me for prosperity. There is recognition that we are spiritual beings experiencing our humanity, rather than the other way around.
