Happiness Rests Securely In Your Hands

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Your life sucks, you hate your boss, you hate your life and you wish your ex would get hit by a bus. If this is your life, the good news is that you have the power to change it all. If you keep on doing the same thing over and over, your results will be the same.

I understand. I have been there. I couldn't have been more miserable in the past if my head was stuck in a toilet! I blamed everyone in my life for my unhappiness. It wasn't until I recognized that I was the center of my own universe and the cause for all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly, I shifted big time!

I had a client ask me today what I did to change from being miserable and unhappy to blissfully happy with my life, my work, and my world? The following are the steps I took to change my mindset and my life.

1. I stopped blaming everyone. I began to look at the past events (even the abuse and molestation) as a gift and the catalyst for me to grow and evolve. Trauma happens to us all. How we look at the past is what shifts our mindset.

If we continue to blame others for the way we feel, we will feel depressed, angry and resentful. When we take responsibility for our health, happiness and our life everything becomes better. It may seem a tough pill to swallow, but we contracted for these events to occur so that we would be pushed, prodded and forced to evolve. Some people continue to complain about their lives and never move past the pain and suffering. As Einstein says, they are insane. Bliss is just on the other side.

2. I took responsibility for my happiness. I finally recognized that no one can make me happy or unhappy. Instead of being angry with the way others behaved, I looked inside to see what I did that may have caused their behavior. I stopped using alcohol or prescription medicines. I healed all my addictions through self-love.

3. I listened to what I told myself and what I said out loud. If I beat myself up unconsciously, I would catch myself and shift my thoughts to something positive. I became my own cheerleader.

4. I did my best. Instead of doing things half-assed, I did my best. I took my time rather than rushing through projects. I found I made fewer errors and caused fewer problems for myself when I slowed down.

5. I stopped trying to be perfect. There is such a thing as good enough. I strived for my best, rather than perfection.

6. I began to breathe deeply and consciously. One of the things that I noticed is that when I had low self-esteem I was often barely breathing. Breathing deeply affirmed life. I was giving my permission to be bigger and more powerful by breathing deeply.

7. I showed up. To be successful we need to commit to ourselves. When we commit to ourselves, we show up for appointments, we don't cancel at the last minute, which causes us to feel bad.

8. I was true to my word. Being honest all the time wasn't easy at first. I found I told myself and others white lies. Life is so much easier when we stick to the truth when we do there is much less to remember. We know what we told others because we told the truth. When we tell stories and lies we have to keep track of what we told to whom. We cause less worry and anxiety for ourselves when we are completely honest.

9. I stopped being late. When we have been abused or molested we often have unconscious patterns of control. We attempt to control our environment and aren't even aware of it much of the time. Being late is one way that people with PTSD attempt to control the universe. Control comes from fear.

10. I became fearless. I used to be afraid of the dark. I used to be afraid of public speaking, meeting new people or doing something for the first time. As my confidence rose and I became clear energetically, fears dissolved naturally.

11. I stopped accepting disrespect and abuse. When we don't respect ourselves, we don't recognize when we are being disrespected. If we have suffered trauma as a child abuse is part of our programming. As we begin to heal the past we realize that abuse doesn't have to be a part of our reality any longer. The better we feel about ourselves, the stronger we become and the less accepting of poor treatment we are.

12. I began to love being alone with me. When I was codependent, I had to have someone in my life. If I didn't have a man, I was on the hunt for one or felt desperately lonely. I no longer feel alone or lonely no matter where I am or who I am with. I enjoy my company so much that I have a good time no matter what I am doing.

13. I began to live simply without attachment. I have given up all my belongings three times. In letting go of so many of my material possessions I also let go of the past. Furniture no longer reminds me of an ex-husband who is no longer alive or a friend that has passed on. The things I have I love, but they don't define me and I could let them all go in a heart beat.

14. I know myself well and surround myself with loving people who are interested in growing and evolving. I continue to learn and grow daily.

15. I have a daily spiritual practice of meditation, mantras, dancing and nature. My spiritual practice keeps me grounded and fed.

16. I eat slowly and prayerfully. I don't watch scary movies or anything that will upset me while I eat.

17. I practice mindfulness in all I do. Even preparing my taxes, is a mindful event.

18. I love life and live each day as if it is my last. I don't place too much emphasis on wealth or financial gain, and always have enough to pay my bills and eat well. Money isn't what brings us happiness.

19. I celebrate life daily. I do my best to be kind to others and offer those in need help whenever I can.

20. I perform healing work that I love on people to assist them in improving their lives. I know the work I am doing has an impact on the collective consciousness.

21. I am grateful for everything I have including my life. Each day I am grateful for being alive. I don't wish my life was different or that I had anything other than what I have. I love my life.

Loving ourselves is the greatest gift we can give ourselves, our families and the world. If you need assistance in making your life one of joy, contact me right now, why wait another second? I did it for me and I certainly can help you do it too! Everything is sweeter when we love and accept ourselves.

I Used To Feel Bat-Shit Crazy

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

There was a time when I felt absolutely bat shit crazy. Yes! I thought I was insane. To look at me, you have thought I had it together, but I didn't.

Instead of peaceful thoughts in my head, I had multiple voices screaming at me. There were conflicting thoughts unraveling in my mind. I was so anxiety and worry-filled, I had to take two Benadryl at night to sleep. When I didn't, I spent hours awake in the night worrying. "Will I have enough for my mortgage? Will my sons fight after school while I am at work? Will I get fired for being habitually late? Will I ever be happy? Is anyone ever going to love me?"

Looking back at this time, it is as if that person wasn't me. It is almost hard to believe I was there for so long. I was depressed for over 20 years. During this time, my father died after a 12-year struggle with leukemia. It was immediately after his death that I met my third husband, Rich, my nemesis

Running Away From Family

Louise Hay defines insanity as, "Fleeing from the family. Escapism, withdrawal. Violent separation from life." The healing mantra for this is:

THE MIND KNOWS ITS TRUE IDENTITY AND ITS CREATIVE POINT OF SELF-EXPRESSION.

The Truth Finds Us

We can never run away from the truth. The truth will find us. It shows up in our parenting style. It is evident in our insecurity or perfectionism. The more we try to be run away the more we suffer. I suffered greatly. My negativity made me sick. I had created two auto-immune diseases and severe depression because I avoided processing my emotion. For those who have not done personal inner work processing an emotion is the healthy way to move what we are feeling. Rather than reacting out our emotions, sitting with them, allowing them to be like a blanket around us, breathing into them and feeling them fully is the healthy way to process. When we stop running and begin to feel, the insanity goes away. I did this mostly alone.

I read Louise Hay's book, You Can Heal Your Life, cover to cover more than once. I read Dr. Richard Balch and Balch's book, Prescription For Nutritional Healing so many times that I had to buy a second copy. Whenever I got sick, I looked up what the emotional cause was in Louise's book. She and I got to be old friends, as I healed my own life. I stopped taking any kind of medication and healed myself. I researched, read and went to countless workshops. One thing led to another. My spiral of disaster began to turn around after I had a thought about running off the road. I knew it wasn't mine. That was when I knew I needed something more.

I went to a Hypnotherapist in Atlanta, that cost me a fortune but was so worth the money that I took his course and became a hypnotherapist. When a friend had an energy healing done, I saw the changes in her and asked for her name. In the end, 12 of us took her beginner's course, then the advanced courses in 2007. Those events changed my life.

After studying energy healing and clearing myself daily, I discovered meditation. I began to teach meditation to my clients. Those who stuck to it saw amazing changes in their lives.

The Need To Be Rescued

Sometimes we find relationships that we think pull us out of a hole, only to find that the place we thought we were in just got deeper. That was the case with Rich. I thought he was like my father. The only way that this was true was his violent temper

Rich's father beat his mother in front of their children when Rich was 8. This imprint left an indelible impression he spent a lifetime trying to eradicate. He asked me why he was never able to move past his rage. His avoidance of the truth kept him stuck. He could never admit that his father hit his mother.

She confided in me that her husband chased her through neighbor's houses like in some dark movie, then confronted her in their living room in front of their children and punched her in the jaw. He hit her so hard that her dentures broke into three pieces. Yet, Rich could never admit that this happened. The same way he never admitted that he hit me. He died at 52 feeling he had failed miserably at life.

We Attract What We Are

When we are filled with fears, worry and terror, like I was, we attract others with the same issues. When your issues are huge so are your problems. Looking for a relationship to rescue you is like expecting that you can stop a fire with gasoline. It only makes your life worse. This is why I tell my clients to put dating on hold until their self-esteem is positive.

I found that the fears and money issues I had were compounded when with someone else with similar issues.

How's That Working For You?

One of Rich's favorite expressions was, "How's that working for you?" Although he was abusive to me, he was also the person who held my feet to the fire. He called me out on my self-pity. Even though it pissed me off to no end, rubbing his thumb and index finger together playing the world's smallest violin when I got stuck shifted me.

Those That Piss Us Off Are Our Biggest Teachers

I thought I had it going on when I met Rich. I had a good job. My house was nearly paid off and I thought I was happy. I had no idea how wrong I was. By the end of our marriage, he had used up all my equity, built another huge house, lost it and had four houses he was building go back to the bank. I was in financial ruin when we were divorced. The grand home I thought would make me happy was foreclosed on and nearly killed me trying to pay for it. I learned that no amount of material items will make you happy when you aren't happy with yourself.

Rich never told me I looked beautiful. Instead, he critiqued everything I did, including the hot meals I lovingly prepared every single night of our marriage. I am an excellent cook. Rich could not do more than heat up pizza. Because his self-esteem was in the toilet, he criticized me to make himself feel better.

Wounded People Wound Others

When we are hurting, we lash often out and hurt others. Rich was in emotional pain. Hurting me, punching walls, breaking my beautiful things made him feel better in some way. He had no idea how to process his emotions. At this time, I was in such fear, I couldn't help him either.

Guns and Roses

During the time we lived in our grand home, I hid Rich's guns. I was so afraid he would shoot my daughter and I while we slept. I worked while he stayed at home in front of his computer. Rich refused to allow me to put our daughter in day care, so I asked his mother to move in with us. She confided in me about her marriage on occasion, but would run to Rich with anything I told her in confidence. What was wrong with Rich, you ask? Good question. While his houses were sitting unfinished, he and his mother would call me at work to ask what was for dinner?

Neither of them could put together a meal for our family. He refused to work, even when a business contact of mine offered him a drywall job. His reply was he had taken his tool belt off and would not do physical construction again. I stayed in this hellish marriage for nearly 10 years. Why? I was afraid he would kill me. If you want the whole story, you can read it in my first book; Odyssey Victim To Victory.

His family has no idea of the terror I experienced and blamed me for the divorce and even his death. To this day, they have nothing to do with me or Ariel. Not only has she lost a father, she has lost an entire family.

There Is Always A Silver Lining

Everything that happens in our life does so for a reason. Each experience we have teaches us more about ourselves, if we have the courage to look within. We attracted it on some level. We attract what we are, what we think and what we feel. When we feel lack, we attract more lack. When we are in fear, we attract people and situations that we will fear. We can't attract love when our brains are filled with self-loathing. Love begets love. Fear brings more things that you will fear. I learned more about me.

My Gift

Rich encouraged me to open my own business. I was doing faux finishing and landscaping in our grand home. I tried both on for size and since I had become a Georgia Master Gardener, chose
landscaping as my profession. I owned and operated For Heaven Scapes, Ltd for 11 years. I was passionate about nature, it was a natural for me. Had it not been for Rich having his own residential home-building business and encouraging me, I would never have done this. I am grateful to him for his encouragement and helping me move past my fears about moving into the world in a bigger way.

Rich was the first man who was aligned with me in his spiritual beliefs. I had always been at odds with my partners about my beliefs and their religion. Having someone who understood Metaphysics helped me to grow in our relationship, rather than stagnate. Having someone we can feel aligned with on levels is what we are all wanting. Being able to connect spiritually as well as emotionally, physically with similar value systems. Although his control issues kept me feeling small, upon our divorce I felt a huge sense of freedom and aliveness.

Our Beautiful Daughter

I had always wanted a daughter. I had prayed for her many years. Children are a tremendous blessing for us in so many ways. My daughter has been another great teacher of mine. Those who think
they can't learn from their children are missing out and have huge egos. Ariel is creative, born awake, knows who she is and speaks her truth. There is something here about apples and trees, falling.

There Is Always More

Our relationships provide the greatest learning. We find the triggers that upset us. Those who know us best can push our buttons easily. My buttons certainly got pushed. Things from my past were coming up, haunting me. My childhood molestation kept playing out in my life. Even though I had forgiven my perpetrators, my cellular memory was sending out a beacon of victimhood out into the ethers, boomeranging back to me. After my divorce from Rich, I spent ten years in deep self-introspection. It was not easy. I made great strides and then fell backward. I attracted a man after Rich who was an alcoholic and abused me verbally when he was drunk. There was a history of alcholism in my family, even though my mother was in denial about it. My mother rarely drank, but was addicted to pain. My father quit smoking and drinking cold turkey.

Our family's history cannot be escaped. We cannot run away from it, thinking if we don't talk to our parents or siblings that our issues will resolve themselves. They don't. My trapped emotions were still playing in the background. Which is why the energy work I do is so valuable. The stuck emotions in the cellular memory are removed.

Obsessive Thoughts

Thoughts that loop around causing a downward spiral are a form of addiction. When we are in our addiction we are in the middle of a victim triangle. Sometimes we are the victim, other times we play the perpetrator. Often we become the rescuer, thinking we are helping others by fixing them.

There are many types of addictions. I feel like I have experienced them all at some point in my life. Codependency is the biggest one so many of us face. To be free of addictions is so amazing. Self-love is the cornerstone for healing so that your  life is one freedom, happiness, and joy. When you are happy with you, your life becomes easy, your addictions fall away and love shows up. Relationships become easy when we don't need another to shore up our self-esteem, or make us feel whole. Now I guide others to find their truth, and the love they are searching for. With loving compassion, I help you begin to see yourself through different eyes so that you can find the love that is you, and the life you have always dreamed of.
