Becoming Authentic
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Loved and happy untouched photo 7.2018
There was a time, I felt completely lost, uncomfortable in my own skin. I was afraid to allow others to see me as I was. I was afraid if I allowed anyone in close they wouldn't like me, never mind love me. I was sick a lot, in physical pain with Fibromyalgia, sinus infections and bladder infections. I was addicted to drama and had all kinds of financial issues. I was worried about what others thought of me and did everything in my power to make others happy.
Making decisions was a challenge, choosing for myself even more difficult and I often went to see psychics asking for their insight. I gave my power away to others and lived in constant fear.
What's different today? EVERYTHING! I live in a state of bliss, happiness, and contentment. My work brings me joy and fulfillment. I allow others to see me as I am, without being concerned about what they think or feel about me. Fear that once gripped me along with illness is completely GONE!
What did I do? I changed my thoughts. I stopped being negative and bashing myself. I began loving me with my words, thoughts, and actions. I focused on myself softly. The feeling of being lost is no longer. I never feel alone or lonely no matter where I am or how far away my friends and family are. I know who I am and I love myself completely. I look younger today than I did ten years ago.
Today, I help women and men feel better about who they are, allowing them to feel comfortable in their own skin, happy with who they truly are, drama free, positive and able to manifest with their thoughts easily. Visit my website or book an appointment with me.

Self-Acceptance and Non-Judgement Are Key to Happiness
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
![]() |
James Franco-loving himself
Self-acceptance is about loving ourselves as we are with all our warts, faults and foibles. Everyone has weaknesses and strengths.
Non-judgment is resting in our heart without making a determination of how we think things are. Judgment is often cruel, heartless and often prejudiced.
We can look at others and make judgments based on how they look. For example, last night I attended a gathering where there were individuals in their early twenties and some in their mid to late sixties. When one young man took his shift off to enter the pool an older gentleman judged him on the tattoo art he displayed on his back. The young man was viewed as dark and dastardly because in a moment he chose a particular shape to be tattooed. Making a judgment about someone's character without knowing what is in their heart is unjust and prejudiced.
Insecure people strive to be perfect, while those who accept themselves do so as they are, without attempting to be perfect. Perfectionism leads to anxiety, stress and even depression because it is impossible to reach the goal of perfection. Perfectionism can cause us to remain stuck and stagnant rather than improve in the areas where we lack expertise.
Men and women come to me for a variety of reasons. Most people want to be happier or have the relationship that continues to elude them. The key to being happier with ourselves and those around us is to accept ourselves, others and life as it is.
I remember when I was unhappy with myself my relationships and my life. I was like a salmon trying to swim upstream. My life was a struggle. Relationships were wrought with challenges. Even my relationships with my children were difficult because I wanted to change everyone. We might think we are helping others by telling them what or how to do things. The truth is we don't accept ourselves when we have the need to direct, change or fix others.
When we complain, bitch or moan about our kids, friends, partners and life, we don't accept things as they are. We can't possibly be happy when we complain because we are focusing on the negative or what we don't have.
If we find ourselves single make the most of being single. Do the things that you have always wanted to do but were unable to do before your last relationship. Often we change ourselves and our likes and dislikes to meet the needs of our partner. When we change or give up things we love to do, we can become resentful or on the extreme end feel dead inside.

Often we change ourselves and our likes and dislikes to meet the needs of our partner. When we change or give up things we love to do, we can become resentful or on the extreme end feel dead inside.
What We Give Up For Others
When we don't stand in our power, we tend to give away too much. We might give custody of our children to our ex, a pet away because our new boyfriend is allergic, or stop doing yoga, meditation or running because it interferes with what our partner wants. Giving away the farm as I like to call it is never a good thing. We wake up one day and wonder where we went because we feel we have lost ourselves and our way.
When we constantly worry about what others think of us, we disempower ourselves and focus on others rather than feeling good inside. When we change our personality and behavior to fit the needs of others, we weaken our power and become the chameleon. Chameleons change their color depending on their environment, out of fear.
What Insecure People Are Afraid Of
- being alone,
- not having a partner,
- no one will ever love me
- no one will find me attractive
- time is running out I better keep the person I have
When we accept ourselves the way we are we become comfortable being authentic. We no longer have to pretend to be something or someone to feel good when we are authentic. We don't have to change with the wind or the situation because we know who we are and love ourselves as we are. There is nothing more powerful than being able to walk into a room full of people and be you. When we love ourselves, we aren't afraid that others won't like us. We aren't concerned what others think of us either when we accept ourselves as we are.
When we love ourselves, we are content being alone because we like who we are. Self-love includes loving acceptance of all that we include the shadowy parts of ourselves. When we are filled with self-loathing and insecurities, we fear to be alone because we don't have a clue who we are. We fear what we don't know. I recommend falling in love with you, it could be your greatest love affair of all time!
Find out how your life can become happier with self-acceptance and non-judgment by working with Jennifer. Jennifer is masterful at getting to the root of your issues and uncovering your strength and beauty within. When you begin to recognize the truth of your being your talents, gifts, and strengths are revealed, you feel more confident and accepting of yourself.

3 Reasons You Shouldn't Worry About What Others Think
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
![]() |
Ariel with her PURPLE hair not listening to the opinions of others
The problem with the opinions of others is that everyone has one and they aren't yours. Listening to what others think about you will diminish your power and self-esteem.
So many people along the way, whatever it is you aspire to do, will tell you it can’t be done. But it all it takes is imagination. You dream. You plan. You reach.”― Michael Phelps
Women worry about what others think about the way they dress, do their makeup, fix their hair and the way their children behave. We believe that everyone connected with us reflects negatively or positively on us. Worrying about what others think will make you feel insecure, unattractive and self-conscious. The following reasons should compel you to give other's opinions a pass and focus on how you feel instead.
1. No one knows how you feel but you. When we listen to what others think about us, we doubt ourselves and therefore change ourselves to please other people. Pleasing others isn't authentic. We are happiest when we are completely authentic, standing in our personal power. It is one thing to be kind and compassionate toward others and an entirely different subject when we give our power over to someone who has strong opinions about the way we think, talk or behave.
2. It's not someone else's job to like us, it's ours. Living in our heart rather than our head, trusting what our heart speaks to us rather than believing what our mind says, will help us be softer, kinder to ourselves. When we listen to our heart, we are powerful, intuitive and grounded. Our heart speaks a wisdom of certainty and truth for us. When we worry about what others think of us, we short-circuit the wisdom of our heart and believe what our mind thinks.
3. It is not your business to worry about what someone else thinks about you. Making the thoughts of others your concern will take you down a long spiral of negativity, or worry, and taking care of others. The only person you can control is you. So let go of the burden of trying to please others and focus on how you feel.
Wear what makes you feel good. Dress for yourself, wear makeup to make yourself feel good. Wear your hair the way you like it rather than attempting to please someone else. Stop worrying about what is in fashion, and wear what pleases you.
Once we stop worrying about what others think about us life becomes lighter, happier and less burdensome. Be the best you that you can be rather than attempting to fulfill the needs of some other person by trying to please them.
If I listened to what others thought I wouldn't have:
Live your life with compassion, kindness, mindfulness and awareness. Notice how you feel inside. Breathe deeply to ground and bring yourself fully into your body and the present moment. Living in this moment rather than worrying about the future with others will leave a lot of room for fun, spontaneity and happiness.

Why You Shouldn't Do Cartwheels To Keep Someone
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
In my love and happiness coaching, I see all kinds of behavior where women will do anything to try and keep a guy that is clearly not worthy and often not interested. I have done it in the past myself. When we attempt to manipulate, change, and hang onto someone by changing who we are or explaining bad behavior away there is no possible way this relationship can work.
Attempting to hang onto someone who is walking away makes you needy, clingy and very unattractive. Confidence is infinitely more attractive to a partner than neediness. A relationship will never work if you have the attitude that you will do whatever it takes to change yourself to keep another person. Being inauthentic will make you very unhappy and will destroy the relationship.
When someone shows you who they are, believe them! ~Maya Angelou
You Might Be Doing Cartwheels To Keep Them If:
- Thinking that if or when he gets off drugs or alcohol things will be better is putting your happiness on the backburner. You can't make anyone want to give up their addiction. You may be addicted to love.
- You think your love will cure whatever is ailing the other; it never will.
- Explaining away bad behavior away is disrespectful to yourself. Love yourself enough to let someone who treats you badly go.
- You wish for things to be different. If you have thoughts like, "if only..... he would......" let him go. (This is true unless you have extremely high expectations of your relationship and partner.) Perfectionistic people tend to expect their partner to be perfect and no one is. We all have issues and faults. No relationship will ever be totally free of conflict. We are individuals with our own personalities and ways of doing things. No two people will be exactly the same. We have to allow each other to be true to ourselves.
- You don't talk about what is bothering you. If you allow someone to treat you like a doormat walk all over your feelings, expect you to do everything to keep the relationship working without communicating your needs means you are doing cartwheels to keep them. Work on your self-esteem so that you stop allowing others to mistreat you. Until you do work on yourself you will continue to attract bad behavior because you allow yourself to be mistreated.
- You are a people pleaser. When you turn yourself inside out doing cartwheels to please someone else you will be unhappy with the outcome. You put your personal needs ahead of the relationship and the other person, which subjugates your happiness.
- Expect the other person to make you happy. Another person can't fill the void within you. Looking for someone else to make you happy places too much responsibility on the other person and is an impossible no-win situation.
If your partner has been disrespectful, hurtful, cheated, lied or just become indifferent to you and who you are, let him go. If they have an anger issue, addictions or are disrespectful to you, it is time to get some help. Self-love and self-respect are imperative for a healthy, balanced and happy relationship.

When Everything Falls Apart, There is Good News Coming
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
When things fall apart, there is a reason. You have chosen situations that weren't in your highest good and the universe, and you have set about changing your life for the better. It just doesn't look like there is anything good happening right now. When change is coming, there is nothing you can do to stop it. You might feel that chaos is your only friend.
I had started a landscaping company before we lost our beautiful home. I had begun to make enough to support myself without Rich's help. When his control of my phone calls, friends and family became too great, I finally got the courage to tell him he needed to leave.
My world was falling apart on all levels. I was in fear for my life while I slept. I hid Rich's guns until I could get him out of my house. We moved to a farmhouse, in the Georgia countryside with a barn to store my tools. I found this beautiful place in a very strange way. I loved the house and the land and wanted to stay. This property was perfect for my daughter and I. It felt wrong for Rich to be there. I knew Rich had to go.
What is the point of all of this? Today, I help women love themselves above all else, fearlessly so that they attract positive, balanced, healthy relationships. I work with couples and single women to change their patterns and behavior so that they don't continue to react, deny and push away love. All that happened in the past has removed judgment of others giving me great compassion for where people are. Having been there myself, I can't judge another.
Until we heal our DNA and our unconscious programming we attract unconsciously. We are like the moth to the flame. We attract what is not the best for us. We attract the dysfunction from our family of origin or past molestation. We move toward what feels familiar - even when it isn't safe.
If you think ignoring the past will make it less powerful, think again. We have to heal the past. We have to clear the old programs and patterns so that we aren't a magnet for dysfunction. We have to change our behavior, recognize the red flags and pay attention to them, rather than ignore them. We have to love and accept ourselves as we are. Until we love ourselves completely, and stop denying our old patterns and behavior we continue to accept circumstances that aren't good for us.
Life today is simple, easy, doing work I love. I am ecstatically happy every day. You would never know looking at me that seventeen years ago my life was crumbling in every direction. I was like the moth to the flame.
When things fall apart, there is a reason. You have chosen situations that weren't in your highest good and the universe, and you have set about changing your life for the better. It just doesn't look like there is anything good happening right now. When change is coming, there is nothing you can do to stop it. You might feel that chaos is your only friend.
Following is the shortened version: part of my first book Odyssey Victim To Victory. What began to happen in my life was the momentous change in every way.
My father died twenty-seven years ago, on September 22, 1989. My father was a larger than life character, a skeptic, freethinker, man's man who introduced me to Metaphysics. He taught me to believe only what I knew to be true, rather than what people wrote or said. My father had been abused by his father, ran away from home at seven on a freight train from Toronto to Vancouver, British Columbia. He repeated his adventure again at age twelve. A beating awaited him upon both returns. Why would someone do something so great at such an early age? His home life had to be so horrible that anything was better than staying there.
I met Rich weeks after my father's death. What I didn't recognize at the time was that the familiarity I felt being with him was his deep rage, like my father's. Even though I saw his dark, abusive side, I married him anyway. I married the bad boy. I ignored the red flags. He felt like home to me. His anger was so familiar; I felt like I was walking on egg shells the entire time we were married and long afterward.
I owned my home which was half paid off. Rich didn't like the fact that it was my home. He wanted to build "his house." It wasn't "our home," but HIS. His ego got in the way of recognizing I had a home we could easily afford. He pushed, prodded and
coerced me to use the equity in my home to live on and finance his building company. My fear of him was my motivator. My confidence and freedom were eradicated in this marriage. I felt imprisoned with no way of escaping. I had just given birth to Ariel I was forty-one.
For those of you who have never experienced abuse, some of this will seem preposterous, impossible to believe. Emotional and physical abuse eradicates confidence. When there is a threat of violence, there is emotional abuse. It makes us feel dependent on our abuser for everything with no hope, no will, hopeless. Fear is an all pervasive energy that surrounds you even while you sleep. The fear that they might murder you and your children while you sleep is real.
Like Attracts Like
(The caveat here is that Rich's brother an ex-marine had committed a pre-meditated murder of his brother-in-law while Rich and I were together. He stabbed him thirty-five times. Rich's father beat his mother, punching her in the face breaking her dentures in three. His family history was one of violence, greater than mine, but similar in energy.) My fear of anger and violence was the perfect match for Rich's DNA of rage.
Huge beautiful home didn't bring happiness
Without giving all the details, Rich built a huge home - "his house" that we couldn't afford. He had four houses go back to the bank when the market crashed, and the economy tanked. We lost our home. Both my sons ended up living with their father; it nearly killed me. My family is the most important part of my life, losing both my sons even temporarily was devastating to my health and happiness.
The light was dawning in my mind, I wondered how I could escape with my life and safety of my daughter.
I sold all my beautiful things so that we would have money to live on, Rich sold none of his tools. While we were losing our home two of my beloved dogs were hit by one car. My oldest Siamese kitty's health failed and her son and another dog had to be put to sleep within six months of our foreclosure. I knew all my animal's deaths were trying to tell me something. Messages were everywhere. I needed to get out too, but how?
The Universe sends help when we make a positive move for change. I gave him two weeks to move out. It just so happened that my sister-in-law's brother, Alan had met a woman on the Internet and had flown to Georgia from England to be with her. When he
arrived from England, he found that she had misrepresented herself and was still married! He was heart-broken. He spent all his hard-earned money to fly over from The UK, only to find out she had lied! I recognized immediately that Alan was in Georgia for the first time for my protection and to ensure Rich left without hurting or harming anyone.
When we talked, I explained what was happening with me and he quickly agreed to stay with me until Rich moved out. Alan was part of my family and had known me since I was fourteen.

Right before our split
When we talked, I explained what was happening with me and he quickly agreed to stay with me until Rich moved out. Alan was part of my family and had known me since I was fourteen.
Why Things Happen The Way They Do
Our DNA has a great power over us, as does our karma. We attract what our parents model for us. Mine had modeled abuse, anger, and negativity. I was afraid of men. I was a magnet for a man who raged, yelled and became big and scary when he was angry. Rich was jealous, controlling and a macho man, like my father in many ways, except that he didn't drink. The biggest similarity was his rage. I was attracted to that part of him that was so similar in energy to my father, unconsciously.
What Feels Like Home Might Not Be The Best For You!
I was attracted to what felt familiar. When I wrote down a list of what experiences I had in my home they were the following:
HOME
- criticized, ignored, not heard
- put down, teased, made fun of
- invalidated
- yelled at
- jealousy (from the mother)
- abused and controlled
- put in harm's way
- unprotected
LOVE?
- criticized, ignored, not heard
- put down, teased, made fun of
- invalidated
- yelled at
- jealousy
- abused and controlled
- put in harm's way
- unprotected
I was like a moth to a flame!
I kept repeating the same old patterns until my outside circumstances became so in-my-face, that I could no longer ignore them. Each relationship I had was worse than the one before. I was so afraid of this man I didn't want to have sex with him. After Rich had moved out, I was able to get quiet, meditate and go within. Finally, I began to wake up. I knew I didn't want to be abused any longer. I knew that my victim energy from my childhood sexual abuse was still present even though I had forgiven all my perpetrators. I had to clear the emotions.
I sat down and meditated. In this meditation, I was directed to create a relationship matrix. This matrix is what I use to guide my clients today.
Using this matrix, I realized that in all my relationships there were similarities. The Guidance I received asked me what the similarities are? What is the common denominator?
Wake Up And Smell The Coffee!
My big aha moment came after I saw that I was the only common denominator in all my relationships. I had to stop blaming others and look at how I attracted these men to me. I had to look at my reactivity from my childhood and clear the triggers. I had to change my behavior.
What's The Use?
What is the point of all of this? Today, I help women love themselves above all else, fearlessly so that they attract positive, balanced, healthy relationships. I work with couples and single women to change their patterns and behavior so that they don't continue to react, deny and push away love. All that happened in the past has removed judgment of others giving me great compassion for where people are. Having been there myself, I can't judge another.Until we heal our DNA and our unconscious programming we attract unconsciously.
It took me over thirty years of healing, study, searching to get to where I am today. My happiness and bliss are my reward for all that I endured in the past. I worked very hard to clear the old patterns and unconscious beliefs that men are all angry, jealous and abusive, or that love hurt and abused. All of my experiences make me wise, compassionate and loving. I understand what my clients have been through because I have been there too.
If everything is falling apart in your world, it is because your life isn't working for you the way it was. It is time for you to wake up, put yourself first, rather than your relationships, give to you, get to know yourself and clear the past. Isn't it time for you to be happy

Happiness Rests Securely In Your Hands
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
If we continue to blame others for the way we feel, we will feel depressed, angry and resentful. When we take responsibility for our health, happiness and our life everything becomes better. It may seem a tough pill to swallow, but we contracted for these events to occur so that we would be pushed, prodded and forced to evolve. Some people continue to complain about their lives and never move past the pain and suffering. As Einstein says, they are insane. Bliss is just on the other side.
2. I took responsibility for my happiness. I finally recognized that no one can make me happy or unhappy. Instead of being angry with the way others behaved, I looked inside to see what I did that may have caused their behavior. I stopped using alcohol or prescription medicines. I healed all my addictions through self-love.
18. I love life and live each day as if it is my last. I don't place too much emphasis on wealth or financial gain, and always have enough to pay my bills and eat well. Money isn't what brings us happiness.
20. I perform healing work that I love on people to assist them in improving their lives. I know the work I am doing has an impact on the collective consciousness.
Your life sucks, you hate your boss, you hate your life and you wish your ex would get hit by a bus. If this is your life, the good news is that you have the power to change it all. If you keep on doing the same thing over and over, your results will be the same.
I understand. I have been there. I couldn't have been more miserable in the past if my head was stuck in a toilet! I blamed everyone in my life for my unhappiness. It wasn't until I recognized that I was the center of my own universe and the cause for all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly, I shifted big time!
I had a client ask me today what I did to change from being miserable and unhappy to blissfully happy with my life, my work, and my world? The following are the steps I took to change my mindset and my life.
1. I stopped blaming everyone. I began to look at the past events (even the abuse and molestation) as a gift and the catalyst for me to grow and evolve. Trauma happens to us all. How we look at the past is what shifts our mindset.
3. I listened to what I told myself and what I said out loud. If I beat myself up unconsciously, I would catch myself and shift my thoughts to something positive. I became my own cheerleader.
4. I did my best. Instead of doing things half-assed, I did my best. I took my time rather than rushing through projects. I found I made fewer errors and caused fewer problems for myself when I slowed down.
5. I stopped trying to be perfect. There is such a thing as good enough. I strived for my best, rather than perfection.
6. I began to breathe deeply and consciously. One of the things that I noticed is that when I had low self-esteem I was often barely breathing. Breathing deeply affirmed life. I was giving my permission to be bigger and more powerful by breathing deeply.
7. I showed up. To be successful we need to commit to ourselves. When we commit to ourselves, we show up for appointments, we don't cancel at the last minute, which causes us to feel bad.
8. I was true to my word. Being honest all the time wasn't easy at first. I found I told myself and others white lies. Life is so much easier when we stick to the truth when we do there is much less to remember. We know what we told others because we told the truth. When we tell stories and lies we have to keep track of what we told to whom. We cause less worry and anxiety for ourselves when we are completely honest.
9. I stopped being late. When we have been abused or molested we often have unconscious patterns of control. We attempt to control our environment and aren't even aware of it much of the time. Being late is one way that people with PTSD attempt to control the universe. Control comes from fear.
10. I became fearless. I used to be afraid of the dark. I used to be afraid of public speaking, meeting new people or doing something for the first time. As my confidence rose and I became clear energetically, fears dissolved naturally.
11. I stopped accepting disrespect and abuse. When we don't respect ourselves, we don't recognize when we are being disrespected. If we have suffered trauma as a child abuse is part of our programming. As we begin to heal the past we realize that abuse doesn't have to be a part of our reality any longer. The better we feel about ourselves, the stronger we become and the less accepting of poor treatment we are.
12. I began to love being alone with me. When I was codependent, I had to have someone in my life. If I didn't have a man, I was on the hunt for one or felt desperately lonely. I no longer feel alone or lonely no matter where I am or who I am with. I enjoy my company so much that I have a good time no matter what I am doing.
13. I began to live simply without attachment. I have given up all my belongings three times. In letting go of so many of my material possessions I also let go of the past. Furniture no longer reminds me of an ex-husband who is no longer alive or a friend that has passed on. The things I have I love, but they don't define me and I could let them all go in a heart beat.
14. I know myself well and surround myself with loving people who are interested in growing and evolving. I continue to learn and grow daily.
15. I have a daily spiritual practice of meditation, mantras, dancing and nature. My spiritual practice keeps me grounded and fed.
16. I eat slowly and prayerfully. I don't watch scary movies or anything that will upset me while I eat.
17. I practice mindfulness in all I do. Even preparing my taxes, is a mindful event.
18. I love life and live each day as if it is my last. I don't place too much emphasis on wealth or financial gain, and always have enough to pay my bills and eat well. Money isn't what brings us happiness.
19. I celebrate life daily. I do my best to be kind to others and offer those in need help whenever I can.
20. I perform healing work that I love on people to assist them in improving their lives. I know the work I am doing has an impact on the collective consciousness.
21. I am grateful for everything I have including my life. Each day I am grateful for being alive. I don't wish my life was different or that I had anything other than what I have. I love my life.
Loving ourselves is the greatest gift we can give ourselves, our families and the world. If you need assistance in making your life one of joy, contact me right now, why wait another second? I did it for me and I certainly can help you do it too! Everything is sweeter when we love and accept ourselves.

My Version Of Self Love
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
It has been an amazing week. I declared the winner of a free one-hour session valued at $225.00 and performed her clearing this evening. I have to say, the right person won. I am delighted to have been able to help someone in profound and lasting ways. Congratulations to Paige Jackson. She is sleeping peacefully tonight. It is a wonderful thing to be able to help others.
Self-love is something we continue to do to take care of ourselves. We don't stop, we take care of our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual selves on a daily basis. Today I am delighted to nurture my soul by seeing Jaggi Vasudev (SadGuru) in person in Pasadena. He like, me is a Self-Actualized mystic and teacher. I offer one of his videos where he talks about how we make ourselves ill, feel crazy and even depressed.
He supports my theory that we make ourselves well and we have the power to make ourselves sick. Enjoy his video and find other wonderful videos on YouTube. "It doesn't pay to be sick and miserable. It does pay, however, to be healthy, vibrantly alive and happy."
If you are committed to your health, happiness and growth, set up your private free discovery session to see if my work is a good fit for you. E-mail Jennifer now!

What Do You Expect?
By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters
When I moved to California, I had high expectations of a house with a clay tile roof, snuggled into the backdrop of palm trees or mountains with gardens and trees. As I searched the Internet for homes to rent, one little adobe home with a chain link fence kept surfacing. In fact, this little house was the first one I saw when I began searching for homes while still in Colorado.
Letting Go
I have given up all of my belongings three times. I have far less now than I had even ten years ago. With much less I am far happier with myself and my life. Possessions don't bring happiness; they just bring attachment and more confinement. I can focus on what is really valuable, rather than what is ego-based. I love myself enough to know I don't want to share my house because I need help paying my rent. I like my solitude and privacy.
The interior of the house was completely renovated. The walls were a foot thick which meant it would stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The house was solidly built being over sixty years old.
It had a half-acre of fenced in yard which provided ease for me to let my dogs out to play safely. Across the street was a warehouse that was empty. To the left of me was a vacant lot. Across the street to the left was another vacant lot. To the right of me were apartments where the garages were the only things that faced my home and yard. I had complete privacy on all sides.
My biggest beef about the little house I have now lived in for almost four years was the roof. In the desert, the wind howls, especially in the winter. Shingles were constantly falling off the roof, and there was a multitude of patches of different colored shingles making the house from the outside look like a little shabby without the chic.
When my landlord showed up to take a look at the damage the next day, he announced, "Next Friday, I am going to give you a new roof!" After four years of me looking at the roof and wishing it to be different - it happened! Last week he asked me to pick colors for the house and suggested blue.
As my business has grown in California, I have relaxed and enjoyed my home. I have never been so happy in my life as when I moved to the desert of California. I love the solitude, quiet and remoteness of where I live.
In the time it takes to drive one exit up the highway, one exit I can be in the wilderness to dance and walk my dogs in peace. I can be at any beach in two-to-three hours. In the winter, I am thirty miles away from snow in the mountain town of Tehachapi.
Let's face it a huge house is beautiful. Living in something smaller gets us out of our ego. Tom Shadyac is a producer, director, comedian, screenplay writer, and philanthropist. He created such movies as Liar, Liar, Ace Ventura Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor and Bruce Almighty. His net worth is approximately 12 million. He was instrumental in creating a documentary called I AM. I highly recommend this film, available on Netflix.

Expectations have a way of ruling our lives. When our expectations are high, we may never achieve the level of success we expect, thus setting ourselves up for failure and disappointment. I recommend that my clients let go of expectations so that they have room to explore the infinite possibilities, which usually turn out to be way better than what we could ever expect on our own.
Expectations in relationships set our partners up for failure. High expectations of our children cause them stress and us to feel disappointed when they don't meet our lofty desires. Expectations for our life cause us unhappiness, as we tend to set the bar way too high. When we expect so much, we can find it difficult to be happy with what we have. When we learn that settling for less, we find happiness in the smallest of things and life becomes infinitely simpler.
More Fun, Trust, and Discovery
When we stop expecting, we step into the flow of life, rather than trying to figure out exactly how things should be.

Lofty expectations, not my house!

Leaving Boulder, Colorado moving day
My ex-husband had just died. My work in Colorado didn't pan out as I had hoped and my finances were restricted, just like the Universe likes it. We had only just moved a year before from Georgia, after selling everything. Cross-country moves are costly. I had blown a lot of cash moving and having to relocate again.
We become creative when our finances are tight; we learn to make do with less and don't waste anything. I had expectations of life in California, and it didn't include a small adobe home in the middle of a town.
If I hadn't had such high expectations of a home, I could have moved right in as soon as my daughter, and I arrived in Rosamond. Instead, we stayed with a friend our three cats in a cage and our dog Karma had to stay in our pick up truck. I caused the hardship because of my high expectations.
3-car garage, 5,000 square foot home - miserable
I had lived in beautiful homes where our garage was bigger than this entire house with a monthly mortgage that was half a yearly salary for some people. I had to drop my expectations to accept that this home being shown to me over and over was the best place for my entire family.
What We Believe To Be True is Often Fiction
I looked at the homes on the mountain side thinking how lovely it looked up there, high over the town with a view of the valley below. It seemed idyllic and beautiful to me. I had romanticized the larger homes thinking life would be better there.
The yards there were postage-sized without grass, which meant my dogs would need to be walked, there was no safe place for them just to play outside as dogs do. The houses were packed tightly together and cooled with air conditioning units, rather than the less expensive swamp coolers. The rent was double that of the little house in town. The landlord of the rental house wasn't open to being creative with financing in any way. There was no wiggle room on anything.
Truth
Instead of an air conditioning unit, it had a swamp cooler which cools your home for less than a third of an air conditioning unit. The rent was very reasonable. Since the entire house was only 800 square feet in size, my utilities were affordable. The little adobe house was a perfect size for my daughter and me with three bedrooms and a beautiful kitchen complete with goose-neck faucet, gas cook top and granite countertops. The bigger picture was that the smaller home was perfect in every way except aesthetically.
Mojave Desert, California
My landlord is Hispanic, a family man who knows what struggle is all about and was willing to work with me. He even let me slide for three months the first winter I lived in California while I was struggling to feed myself and my daughter. There were so many gifts living in the house that was smaller, and seemingly a lower standard.
The Miracles
On Monday, September 12th, during the Mercury Retrograde, a time when things need to get re-done, reordered, repaired, I drove up to the front of my house and said, "How can I easily get a new roof?" That afternoon, I heard a crash. My swamp cooler on the top of my roof had leaked water into my back bedroom and caused a quarter of my ceiling to cave in.
Before the make-over
My home is north-facing, which means the best color from a Feng Shui perspective for wealth is blue. He intuitively knew it. On top of a new roof, my house will be Feng Shui perfect from the outside in the right color!
Gratitude For What We Have
I am so grateful to have the privacy, safety, and comfort that I experience in my little home. My animals love being out in the yard and are safe from traffic and coyotes. Expressing our gratitude for what we do have allows us to attract something more. The space I have is more than enough for me. I use all of my rooms. My office is lovely, tidy and orderly. I can create here because I am at peace.

My animals love the yard and digging for gophers in my little patch of green grass. I have made it a sanctuary. It feels peaceful and zen like inside. If I had chosen the other house on the mountain, I would now be living in a small apartment. I wouldn't have been able to afford it during those lean early months and would have had to move - again.
Since I spend less on my living expenses, I am free to travel to Boulder, Colorado four or five times a year and visit my clients in Atlanta, Georgia as well. In 2017, I plan to visit The UK, Ireland, France and India again.
I can clean my home in a little over two hours from top to bottom. I am not a slave to my possessions. I can close the door and hop on a plane to do a workshop and not be concerned about whether someone will break in and steal my stuff.
How You Can Benefit From Reducing Expectations
I can clean my home in a little over two hours from top to bottom. I am not a slave to my possessions. I can close the door and hop on a plane to do a workshop and not be concerned about whether someone will break in and steal my stuff.
How You Can Benefit From Reducing Expectations
- We relax when we reduce our expectations.
- We can step into the flow rather than forcing events to happen.
- When we simplify our lives we become less stressed.
- We stop worrying about what others think of us and become more authentic.
- Life is more blissful when we do what we love.
- We enjoy what is really important.
- When we are less stressed we become infinitely more creative.
- Our relationships become more peaceful when we reduce or drop expectations.
- We become free. Freedom brings us peace, serenity, and happiness.
Getting Out Of The Ego
At the end of I AM, Tom features his 17,000 square foot, 7 million dollar property in Pasadena, California talking about how excited he was to move in. Once he did, he looked around and
recognized that the house didn't thrill him like he thought it would. The house was huge, beautiful and certainly a showplace. He sold his home in Pasadena. Tom now lives in a little 40-foot trailer in Malibu.
Tom Shadyac's mobile home in Malibu
I have friends that struggle to pay their enormous mortgage and accompanying living expenses each month. Many of them never travel because their living expenses keep them so strapped, all their income goes into just existing. Life is more than struggle. Reducing our expectations allows us to enjoy the little things that matter. Adventure, travel, and exploration can occur when we free ourselves to enjoy something other than trying to look a certain way.
We can set expectations up for wealth, success, relationships. We can set the bar so high for achievement, that we never find the happiness we think is going to be there. Expectations break the bank on happiness. High expectations will cause you to feel you never succeeded.
Love yourself to be in the flow of life. Have the courage to do with less, spend less on things that don't matter. Focus on what does, your health, happiness, and love.
I love you,
Thank you for joining me today.
Client Testimonials:
After working with Jennifer recently, I must say that I am grateful to the Divine for placing her in my path via a Google search. A few weeks ago, I was in an interesting place emotionally. I was in-between coming to terms with some past emotional trauma but not fully understanding what it meant to "let go of my past." Following our initial 30 minute "discovery session" and subsequent first session a week later, I finally understood what it meant to embrace the present while letting the past be whatever it was.
As she opened my Akashic record and began to peel back the layers of my current and past lives, I shook, trembled, and buzzed as Jennifer cut the cords to the negative emotional patterns that had affected me on a personal, physical, emotional, and spiritual basis. The guilt, shame, and depression I experienced for years immediately left, and I felt lighter! It was as if life had finally smiled at me and the Universe had finally said, "it's time for your healing. Embrace it and finally, learn to live life and enjoy it!"
I'm truly grateful for Jennifer's work, and I know that this is the beginning of something beautiful in my life. Thanks again, Jennifer, and I send you much love and many blessings!
Sincerely,
Mary
