5 Ways Chocolate Makes Love Sexier

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

With one taste,  your body relaxes, your eyes roll back and you feel an all over swoon of pleasure and delight.  It is no wonder most women have a love affair with chocolate. It is our go-to essence, grounding and calming influence when we are upset. It is the drug of choice for many. It is certainly my personal drug of choice. It is the one thing that I consistently reach for to help me focus while writing or when I have been meditating or doing high level spiritual work. It grounds me. I feel loved when I eat it. Eating chocolate for me is both a sensual and visceral experience.

I know I am not alone. Chocolate is so much more than a food, it is a medicine, that boosts mood, feeds our emotions and our soul. It is also more than just a tasty treat. It reduces stress, reduces the risk of stroke and makes you feel loved. More information follows about this amazing food for the Gods!

"After water, cocoa is the single healthiest substance you can put in your mouth. It can easily replace a number of psychiatric drugs for mood, plus it produces the same chemistry in the brain that occurs when we fall in love." Chris Kilham, Medicine Hunter

Mankind Has Used Chocolate For Thousands of Years

The Aztecs, Mayans and Olmec Indians all used cocoa in their rituals. The Olmec Indians were the first to cultivate cocoa as a crop between 1500 BC and 400 BC. More recently, scientists have finally settled on the Orinoco Valley in Venezuela as the place that chocolate was first known to have grown. The

inside the cocoa pod
Theobroma cacao, tree was more recently discovered by the 18th century Swedish Scientist, Carl Von Linne. Although the tree bears fruit and flowers all year round, it offers two harvests per year, producing large football shaped pods. On the heels of the Superbowl, I find this a fitting article. Each football shaped pod is about nine inches in length and contains about 30 or 40 almond sized seeds (cocoa beans). There are three different varieties that are used to make chocolate. They are: criollo, forastero, and trinitario.

The Theobroma cacao trees are presumed to have spread into Mexico, where it was cultivated. Chocolate has been used by the ancients in religious and fertility rituals. The Mayans used chocolate as a gift to their Gods. In 1570, chocolate was used as a medicine and aphrodisiac. In 1657, the first chocolate house was opened in London, England, by a Frenchman. Trust the romantic French! Back then, chocolate was considered a beverage only for the elite class.

All history aside, what exactly does chocolate do for you?

Chocolate Enhances Brain Function

Chocolate enhances the mind, mood, and increases feelings of love. There are two substances in chocolate that we are interested in: Theobromine and caffeine. Though many say that caffeine is a substance we should not consume, it has been scientifically proven to be beneficial for the brain in moderate amounts. Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant on the planet. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, the flow of blood to the brain and increases the neurotransmitter, serotonin. An alkaloid, like morphine, caffeine can reduce pain and is found in certain pain relievers. Though chocolate contains modest amounts of caffeine, it helps you focus, increases alertness and assists with thought formation. It enhances overall health, mood function and cardiovascular health.

Caffeine taken in a dose of 300 milligrams a day or less is good for you. Compared with a cup of coffee, dark chocolate contains between 10 and 60 milligrams of caffeine, versus an 8 ounce cup of  strong coffee which can contain up to 260 milligrams of Trimethylxanthine (caffeine). Coffee is actually good for you.

Theobromine, caffeine's chemical cousin occurs in greater quantities; about 250 milligrams per 50 gram bar of dark chocolate. Theobromine possesses a different chemical structure than caffeine, is a stronger cardiac stimulant, and much less studied. Theobromine has intense mood enhancing effects.

The Big Aah!

Chocolate's greatest benefit is they way it enhances sexual pleasure. It increases the levels of serotonin in the brain, the feel-good chemical. Chocolate increases sexual excitation, desire and responsiveness. Maybe this is why I was inspired to write Orgasm For Life, due to my chocolate consumption!

Serotonin

Serotonin plays a role in positive mental health, mood and psychological function. It is a well known fact that people with depression are deficient in serotonin. With too little serotonin you may also have difficulty sleeping, eating disorders, or imbalances in mood, not to mention depression. Serotonin is responsible for for balancing appetite, mood, a multitude of behavioral and psychological issues. Women have more serotonin in their bodies, which may be one of the reasons they seem to be more attracted to chocolate than men.

Serotonin Soothes The Savage Beast

It has been scientifically proven that men and women with low levels of Serotonin are more prone to aggressive behaviors, sexual
aggression, as well as a higher rate of masturbation and promiscuity.

Bliss and Love

Chocolate is a rich, complex compound comprised of plant-based antioxidant polyphenols that act upon the brain, that gives us pleasurable feelings that no other food or medicine can replicate. These feelings involve a lifted mood, intense pleasure and bliss.

Phenathylamine (PEA) is the chemical most responsible for the feelings of love and bliss in chocolate. This chemical is found in small amounts in chocolate, stimulating the nervous system triggering the release of opium-like substances in the brain, known as endorphins. Phenathylamine also potentiates the neurochemical

dopamine which is directly associated with sexual response, arousal and pleasure. PEA rises when we we are in love and significantly during orgasm. It is a potent anti-depressant. Phenathylamine is the chemical responsible for that giddy, crazy, euphoric feeling that we get when we are in love.

Some experience a drop in PEA immediately following an orgasm where they might feel intense sadness (PCT post coital tristess). For men and women who experience this Tantra will help, it allows you to keep your sexual energy up for longer periods of time without the sadness afterwards. (More on this in another post)

Cannabinoids in Chocolate?

Cannabis
Marijuana, the brain and chocolate are the only places cannabinoids are found. THC is the chemical that produces the high when the marijuana plant is consumed. The brain produces mind-altering cannabinoids called Anandamide. Anandamide comes from the sanskrit word Ananda, meaning, yes, you got it - BLISS! Anandamide binds to the same receptors sites that THC from cannabis. Anandamide produces a feeling of euphoria. This could very well be the reason so many people say that they are orgasmic while eating chocolate. It is a real phenomenon for many. Chocolate can make some feel blissed out, while others have very little response.

5 Ways Chocolate Makes Love Sexier (There are way more than 5!)

  1. Increases serotonin in the brain, allowing the body to respond with greater desire, excitation and responsiveness.
  2. Acts as a bonding agent that enhances a sense of closeness between lovers.
  3. Increases blood flow to the brain, so that sexual experiences are felt more strongly.
  4. Increase in Phenathylamine which allows dopamine to be produced and released, causing the pleasure response.
  5. Chocolate actually promotes the brain chemistry of being in love!

Sex Pot - Going Green For Orgasms

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Sex with pot? You might be wondering if I have lost my mind? Is this post supposed to be SEX POT?  No. This is a subject that many people are discussing. I have been wanting to open up about my own personal experience with pot way back in Toronto in the 80's.

I grew up in the hippy days of Love Ins, and the pot smoking 70's. Marijuana was different back then. There weren't 100 different strains. As a matter of fact, there was only one and it was green!

To get high in order to avoid feelings or avoid life is not what this article is about. Marijuana used in a sacred or medicinal way is what I am writing about. Celebrating life, rather than escaping from life is living fully.

Medicinal Marijuana

Marijuana can reduce pain, depression, cure cancer, stop children from having 100s of seizures a day, stop the effects of many chronic diseases and help a woman who is non-orgasmic, get to multiple orgasms. The body of evidence is piling up almost as tall as the marijuana plants themselves.

Back in the 70's and 80's pot was filled with seeds that popped, not that I would know, of course! Joints were rolled and very few people used a pipe. Marijuana was not used for medicinal purposes, but recreational use, because no one studied the positive side effects. There are many reasons why people like Martha Stewart or even John Stewart smoke it. Today people prefer one of the two strains Sativa or Indica. Sometimes it is a mix of both.

When we lived in Boulder, Colorado the American mecca for pot, we be-friended a man who had formerly been an alcoholic. He had a very rough childhood, molested by his mother. His brother committed suicide at 21. He smoked weed because he could not function in life without it. He had terrible PTSD from childhood.

He had reformed, given up alcohol completely and switched to pot. He became a connoisseur of marijuana. It was one of the things he talked about endlessly. He educated me on the different strains. He said that Sativa was a head-high and that Indica was a body-high. Sativa will open your mind, expand your horizons and quite possibly make you chatty.

Indica hits your body and can make you a couch potato. In other words, if you want to enhance your sexual encounter you probably don't want to smoke 100% Indica, as you might be locked unable to move, smile or even open your eyes.

Today pot is smoked by 65% of the population, although the government reports very different statistics saying nothing has changed since the 80s. I know very few teens who have not smoked marijuana today. From Oprah Winfrey to Lady Gaga, President Obama to President Clinton. There is even a list of the 50 most influential marijuana smokers on the Internet. Although, Clinton lied about his sexual escapades he also lied about not inhaling. We all know the purpose of smoking pot is to get high. You don't smoke it if you have no intention of getting a buzz.

I have written about my personal feelings about pot. I like my life straight. I am really happy with life as it is. I know that my kids and most of their friends smoke it.

Personally, I prefer to have a clear head. I am not anxious, depressed or unhappy. Many people smoke for those reasons. People also smoke to relieve PTSD.  I am open minded enough to see that marijuana can be beneficial if used wisely. For me, though, I have never been a stoner. I might have a glass of wine once or twice a year. I smoke pot even less. I have been offered to smoke hundreds of times and say no. When I do, it is a very rare occassion. Then it is only one puff and my kids have to pick me off the floor. The other downside that I have seen with pot smoking is that it opens holes up in the aura. When there are holes, the physical body and soul are without the normal protection. You can get attachments and entities on you from pot smoking.

I do however, recommend it to couples who are having challenges getting to orgasm. Pot has it's place. I like a clear head to write, meditate and live.

What Pot Does To Your Body

Smoking weed can make you incredibly aware of your sexuality. You may feel tingling in your vagina, breasts and a heightened awareness of everything. It can relax you. It could also make you incredibly sleepy and dopey, depending on the strain.

Pot releases oxytocin in the body in great doses. Oxytocin is released upon sexual arousal, during breast feeding and labor. Oxytocin is the feel good hormone also known as the cuddle hormone.

The key is that pot is different with everyone. Your response could be different depending on your mood, partner and where you are physically.

Multiple Orgasms

My first experience having a multiple orgasm was while smoking pot. My senses were enhanced. I relaxed and my inhibitions fell by the wayside. This was well over 20 years ago, so my remembrance of all the details are hazy. That should make most people laugh. I do remember the sex though and the guy. It was the most amazing sexual experience I had had.

I had another experience while on a sales training for Lanier dictation equipment, also while in Canada. Our whole sales force was taken to a lodge where we had a hay ride, and I had quite the roll in the hay!

For women who are uptight and non-orgasmic, marijuana could be THE TOOL used to lighten your mood and relax. However, the downside of smoking the green stuff is that if you are afraid, it will heighten your paranoia. If you feel quirky, it will heighten your quirkiness. Whatever mood you happen to be in, will be raised up to the power of 10, especially if you don't smoke it regularly.

Pot is a way to help a woman loosen up and get beyond her road blocks about orgasm and sex. It certainly worked for me.

Best Sativas for energy: Flow and Skunk 1 (very stinky)

Relaxing Sex: Blueberry

The rest are not for the faint of heart. The names, I did not come up with. So forgive me......   A few flying "F" words.

The following is an excerpt from an article on ALTNET's home page:

What’s in a name, you ask?- Some strains, by name alone, suggest a fun roll in the hay, like: “Fucking Incredible,” “Burmese Fucking Incredible” and“Matanuska Thunder Fuck.”
Just like Viagra- What strains are specifically heralded for their Viagra-like effects?   For seduction and mental wooing, Kirkman recommends “Voodoo” as the key to unlocking unbridled passion. To unleash the sexual beast within, Kirkman recommends “Godbud,” and “ Afghani Bullrider.”
