15 Reasons Not To Walk Down The Aisle With Him

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Vera Wang Wedding Dress

Divorce statistics are staggering. According to The Huffington Post, thirty percent of women marry the wrong guy. I was one of them.

We dream of our perfect wedding day, walking down the aisle, to marry the man we will be happy with until the day we die. Yet for thirty percent of women, they know before they walk down the aisle that they are making a terrible mistake. Why do women tie the knot anyway?

Women continue to make plans and get married for the following reasons:

  • They feel marriage will magically fix any problem.
  • They feel their biological clock is ticking
  • Better this guy than no one.
  • They feel if it doesn't work, "I can always get a divorce."

Women are unsure what they feel is true. They focus on the future, thinking things will be different, when....They explain away the red flags. The wedding plans are already in motion and they don't want to be embarrassed by calling it off. The truth is that divorce has a higher cost than a wedding both financially and emotionally even before children are present. Here are my tried and true 15 reasons not to marry the guy:

1. You have caught him in lies repeatedly. Someone who lies habitually will continue to lie after marriage. Some liars are sociopaths and never change. Lying can be addictive and something that becomes a compulsion. A marriage built without trust is not a marriage of longevity. You can't build a happy marriage without trust. People rarely change. Hoping your relationship will be different after you marry is a fantasy. What you see is what you get. End it!

2. You are marrying his potential. Marrying a guy's potential is a mistake. We can hope a guy will reach the potential we see in him, but banking on it is a mistake. By thirty a predominant part of our personality is formed in stone. In Me Myself And Us The Science of Personality And The Art of Well-Being   by Brian R. Little, by the time we are thirty, we are pretty set in our ways. There is a very strong genetic component as well that contributes to who we are.

Thinking a guy will be different after marriage is delusional. Think of what you have now as the best of the best. Most people succumb to the humdrum of life and settle in, relax into the mundane of life and feel they are set now that they've got you.

3. He is terrible in bed. Selfishness in bed translates to someone who is not generous and only interested in themselves. A guy who isn't selfless in bed will continue to be so after marriage. A guy who isn't interested in pleasuring you till you orgasm before marriage is unlikely to transform after you walk down the aisle.

True story: Rachel and Wes had been dating for five years. They were engaged for one. When Rachel expressed that she wasn't getting to orgasm and that she needed more from him, Wes told her, "I'm good!" He wasn't interested in learning how to pleasure Rachel to the point of orgasm. He felt as long as he ejaculated that was enough. A guy who states he doesn't want to learn anything new, or change his skill set isn't marriage worthy. He is exhibiting a high level of selfishness and ego that won't change after marriage. END IT, SAVE THE YEARS OF MISERY.

She did! Rachel recognized that her pleasure was just as important as Wes's and it is! She ended their five year relationship because she realized Wes wouldn't change. He didn't value her enough to give her the pleasure he was getting.

4. He won't try what you suggest in bed. In spite of what some men think, women aren't just guys with vaginas. A woman's sexual needs are different than a guy's. It takes on average twenty to forty minutes for a woman to warm up to be able to orgasm. If your guy lasts two minutes and says, "I'm done," he isn't doing his job. Both parties need to receive pleasure to the point of orgasm (unless a man is holding his seed).

Are Men Getting The Most Pleasure In Bed?

5. He makes it only about himself. Narcissists can be alluring and even seductive. However, one of the most difficult relationships we can have is when partnered with a narcissist. Narcissists will not take responsibility for their actions because they believe they are never wrong. They will make you feel crazy because they manipulate to get what they want and will never apologize because they never feel they are wrong. DON'T DO IT, YOU WILL BE ENDLESSLY SORRY YOU DIDN'T END THIS NIGHTMARE BEFORE MARRIAGE.

6. His past is sketchy. If a guy won't speak about his past, consider this a huge red flag not to be ignored. A person's past often dictates their future. Morals are learned at home; if his father was a philanderer and he cheated on his ex he will probably cheat on you.

7. You had an affair with him when he was married previously. An ill-begotten relationship will end the way it began, with him cheating on you with another woman.

8. He has a different faith than you. If you believe in something and he doesn't you will have challenges throughout your relationship with issues other than faith.

9. He doesn't have a job and isn't looking. Marrying someone who isn't working or looking is a serious issue. Do you plan on doling out money and alimony after your marriage ends to continue supporting him? A man's character is evident in the way he lives his life. Choose a man who works and is responsible and self-supporting. Someone who is unemployed and irresponsible now will probably also be in the future.

10. He has anger issues that he can't control. Anger present before marriage will be present afterward. Marriage isn't the magic potion that eradicates a person's personality and issues. Anger present prior to marriage will only get worse.

I married a man who had anger issues. Each time, he promised he would be different. He punched holes in walls and sometimes in me. His father had anger issues, his brother committed murder. He was a spiritual man who tried everything to release the anger. He died an angry man.

Anger is a serious issue that doesn't go away. It takes years of committed work to heal and release anger, for others there is never any change.

11. He whines and complains. Whining is a sign of a closet homosexual or someone hiding their homosexuality. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against people choosing to play for their own team, just don't marry someone who isn't attracted to women, this will never change.

I married a man who hid his homosexuality because he was raised Baptist. He couldn't admit he was gay even to himself. After six months of marriage, he stopped having sex with me. Read my article Men Who Hide Their Homosexuality And Marry A Straight Woman.

12. He's unhappy with life. Marriage will not make someone happy that isn't. Your love won't make him any happier after you marry him. Don't do it!

I recently dated a man who was well-paid, drove a really nice car and lived in a beautiful home, but he was miserable. When I told him I was manifesting something wonderful he peed in my Cheerios. He was a naysayer who poo-pooed everything I said and did. Someone who is unhappy will make you unhappy as well.

Don't marry someone that isn't happy with himself and life. JEM

13. Your core values aren't in alignment. When our core values aren't in alignment we don't speak the same language. Marriage is difficult enough when two people are on the same page, singing the same tune. When we don't have the same core values we disagree about having and raising children, which church to go to and what our beliefs are. If you don't know what your core values are now, find out here.  5 Reasons You Need To Know Your Core Values

14. He has an addiction. Addictions are serious business. It can take a lifetime and longer for some people to decide they want to be clean. Addictions are dark with a deep-seated self-hatred. People who hate themselves are very difficult to have relationships with. The expression, "Once an Addict Always An Addict," came from the truth that addictions can last longer than a lifetime.

Why You Shouldn't Do Cartwheels To Keep Someone

I have heard countless women tell me, "He's not an alcoholic he only drinks beer!" I have a neighbor who only drinks beer, but drinks sixteen tall boys a night. It doesn't matter if his addiction is pot, acid, porn, masturbation, cocaine, heroin, beer, wine or hard alcohol.

An addiction is an addiction. It takes many years of dedication, courage, hard work, and stick-to-iveness to overcome any addiction. Once an addict is clean the anger and emotions are the next biggest challenge. A rejection of the self and lack of self-love is the core of any addiction. Your love can't cure him. Set him free and work on your issues of enabling instead.

15. You are fighting often before marriage. Thinking someone will be different and more to your liking after marriage is a fantasy. Where else are you in denial about the truth? Marriage doesn't make a relationship easier, it is often much more difficult after you tie the knot than before.

Marriage isn't a magic potion. Marriage is a certificate on paper that makes it legal for you to be together, that is all. In many instances as soon as the wedding is over couples recognize they have made a terrible mistake. When brides focus on the wedding, they forget what the marriage is beyond the one day of bliss. A wedding lasts one day, a marriage can be for years and a lifetime if you are really lucky and work diligently on your issues, growing together.

A marriage doesn't mean the work is over, in fact the hardest part is yet to come. Once you hit the two-year mark people settle into being more authentic. Often the masks come off an one or both are shocked to find they married someone they didn't know at all.

I Want To Know What Love Is

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

For so many people today, heartache and pain are what they think of when they think of love. Why is that? Why do relationships cause us such issues? We want to be loved, or do we? Sometimes I wonder because I see people pushing love away. Our fear of being hurt causes us to push the very thing we desire away. I have done it too.

When we have traumatic experiences in our past, and everybody does, we hold the energy of the past in our cellular body. The emotions from the breakups, nasty divorces, and horrible dates in our tissues. Until we can let go completely and forgive those who we perceive have hurt us we really can't experience love because we have a wall built which keep us from allowing a new person close to us.

We can't be vulnerable and risk everything when we experience fear. Fear blocks us from letting go, and able to receive love.

I know from my past experience that I wasn't authentic for most of my life. I acted like I thought others wanted me to be. I faked it. I faked orgasms; I faked happiness, I faked being. When I finally let go of caring what others thought of me is when I recognized I liked myself and it didn't matter what anyone else thought. My self-esteem came from me, not from the validation I had previously desired from my mother or others.

Healing our past allows us to become completely naked in front of another. The naked I am talking about is the ability to be completely vulnerable and seen by our partner, naked with our clothes. Most people wear a mask and don't allow someone new to see the real person under the subterfuge. Our fear of not being accepted for who we are keeps us acting the way we think our date wants us to be.

When we aren't authentic at the beginning of a relationship, our relationship is doomed to failure because eventually, we have to let our guard down and be real. When we finally show up, our partner will wonder who the heck they fell in love with? Authenticity is the key to feeling and receiving love. Until we can be real with another, we are faking life and not going to receive real love.
Softening And Becoming Real

The softer and more authentic we can be, the better. Our relationships build trust when we are authentic. The fear of not being liked or loved is from the past. When we love ourselves, the experience of receiving love from another isn't so scary.

Letting go of the false pretenses and faked orgasms allow us to sink in to be grounded in our true self. If someone doesn't like who we are - NEXT! There will be someone who does. Don't waste your precious energy trying to be someone you aren't to be loved. If you have to turn yourself into a pretzel to find love, it isn't real. The more you that you can be, the more real your relationship will be also. All relationships have some conflict.

We aren't going to always agree with one another. Thinking that love means a relationship without conflict is a fairy tale. Knowing how to communicate lovingly when those challenges arise is one of the facets of my work. I help couples navigate the sticky situations and complexities of relationships. Being fearless certainly helps, and that is certainly something I help my clients be.

Dumbing It Down

When we act less intelligent, or less sexual than we are, we are attempting to dumb down the truth of ourselves. We are faking it. I faked it with one of my husbands. He was insecure about himself and his sexuality. He wasn't ready for a woman who was passionate, and powerful. I had to hold back and act like a Puritan. He was a macho man who had to be in charge. We didn't click at all. Our marriage was volatile because of the constant power struggle.

Afraid To Be Alone?

Many fish in the sea!

There are other options than to attempt to be someone you are not just to try and make this relationship work. When we let go of one relationship and allow ourselves to be seen, it won't be long before a new love comes along that takes you to a higher place where you can connect to the depth of your soul. There are lots of fish in the sea. Find the right fish for you. Don't settle for less. You deserve love. You deserve to be loved for who you are, as you are. Of course, the flip side of the coin is that we have to accept our partner as they are as well.

Orgasm For Life - Viagara

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Orgasm For Life will be available for sale on Wednesday, May 28th. This book is a bold look at men and women with respect, candor and humor. This book was written to assist people to have better sex, better love and healthier more loving relationships. Orgasm For Life,  is laugh out loud funny as well as educational. It is filled with insight, wisdom and compassion for both sexes. The following is an excerpt from Orgasm For Life,  on the subject of Viagra. One of the statistics that needs to be added to this section is that 80% of women fake orgasms. There is a reason they fake it. They are not reaching the culmination of the sex act by the time that their male partners do. They feel it has taken them too long. (More on that subject tomorrow.)

Many women I know stop having sex in their fifties. They have stopped having sex because it was not fulfilling. They didn’t have orgasms and their husbands and lovers didn’t seem to know. Many felt that their partner’s did not care. This is just sad. Many women are disheartened, like I was, about the sex they have had. Just because we have sexual body parts does not mean we know how to make love to another. Or even with ourselves. Many of us need help. Sex can improve as you get older, with some guidance and understanding. Men need education, understanding, and patience with us women. Women, too, need to have better understanding of the male psyche and how it feels to be rejected when we are not in the mood. With new knowledge and understanding more women will be satisfied and happier.

Viagra

Millions of men have talked to their doctor about Viagra. Viagra is a pharmaceutical pill which uses five letters from the word vagina, which I find interesting. This little blue pill was created so that men with difficulties in the cranking department would be able to get hard enough to participate and enjoy penetrative sex.
Men have used the little blue pill to improve their sexual experiences where an erection is challenging or impossible. Of course, there are side effects, the worst of which is death. To think that a man would risk his life to experience coitus is telling. Sex is an important part of life. Completing the sex act is imperative, especially for men. Men have been having orgasms for thousands of years without major issues. Why is it so different today?

Women have suffered from frigidity for thousands of years, with the inability to complete the sex act. If sexual dysfunction was as prevalent in men as it is in women today as well as historically, a little pink pill would have already been created. This little pink pill would change the way millions of women experience sex. This pill would use the word penis to derive its name. This magical pill would be called, Piñata! As you can see, Piñata uses only two letters from the word penis, because women can have almost as much fun without a penis. Like a piñata, once you crack open a woman with an orgasm, she is full of fun, surprises, and lots of sugar. The mystery is solved! When women have orgasms through love-making, they return for more. This is an amazing concept! Instead of women existing in non-orgasmic relationships for twenty, thirty, or forty years, we could be enjoying orgasms! It is up to women to know what they like, and to have partners that will lovingly and patiently get them there before they do.

Given the popularity of Sex in the City and 50 Shades of Gray, the time is ripe for a fun, educational book about sex. Remember The Joy of Sex? Written in 1972, it sold over 10 million copies. People want more information, while morals and society have changed.I am an empowerment and sex coach for women. What I have found is, most people are ignoring the issue because they don’t want to hurt their partner’s feelings. Sex is a delicate subject. I have a knack for being irreverent and unorthodox, which makes me an excellent candidate for a book about a delicate subject. I take the “ahem,” out of sex by demystifying it. I don’t sugarcoat it, and I am fearlessly open. Sex, to me, is perfectly natural with nothing to be ashamed of. I also feel that sex has a deeply spiritual component to it. After all, who created sex anyway?

Thankfully, there are strong women on this planet that are heralding a new society, where men and women can become each other’s sex slaves, and women are touted for standing with one foot poised on their partner’s chests wearing stilettos and doing fist bumps with their “sistas.” Oh, wait. That was just a dream I had recently. What was I thinking?

Seriously, to really have the kind of sex you fantasize about, you need to revere your woman and your man. Love, respect and admire who they are. Men, you need to pleasure her until she can’t speak. Men, do you want the ultimate orgasm and sexual experience? Then give it up first. Give the best orgasm to your woman first. See how this changes the complexion of your relationship.

Women are capable of having multiple orgasms. It just takes most women longer than men expect to have ours. Thinking that we are the same as men is what created the chasm that is currently between men and women today. Most women don’t experience an orgasm through vaginal penetration. Yet the majority of the men in the world continue to make love to women in this way. In India, for example, men take care of their own needs without asking if a woman has had an orgasm. It is not discussed. There is not an alternate method to bring a woman to orgasm because sex is for the man’s pleasure, not the woman’s. To the vast majority of the world, sex is a private, personal matter that is not up for discussion between husband and wife. Whether a woman experiences pleasure or not, rarely enters a marriage discussion. Living in the United States, where we are purported to be advanced technologically, medically and scientifically, most men do not know what it takes, or how to bring a woman to orgasm.

As a healthy, heterosexual female, I have had lots of sex. I have been married and divorced 4 times. During those marriages, sex was an important component in my relationships. It was enjoyable. Sometimes it was very good. However, over time it became flat and cursory. I noticed how truncated, boring, and dull sexual experiences became after years of marriage. We often rush through our encounters because one person is less interested than the other, or when babies arrive on the scene. I hear stories of women telling their husbands, just do it and get it over with! Many women do not participate during sex. They lie still, like dead fish, expecting their men to just pleasure themselves. Who wants sex like that? It isn’t good for anyone.

Jennifer Elizabeth Masters is the author of Orgasm For Life. This book was written to help people improve their sex lives, deepen intimacy and have happier, healthier relationships. Sex is the glue. Love is the foundation. 54% of Women are unhappy with their sex lives. 46% of men are unhappy with theirs. Marriages are failing at over 50% for first marriages and over 60% for subsequent marriages. This book was written to bridge the growing chasm between men and women, so that we understand each other. With understanding, compassion, appreciation and trust sex lives improve, communication improves and we get back to why we fell in love in the first place. Instead of being at war with our partners we need to revere them. As that kind lady married 60 years said, "We need to have as much respect for our spouse as we would for a complete stranger." Very wise words. This is not the case in most marriages today. Disrespect, complaining and irritation result from the smallest of things. We treat our spouse as if they are the enemy. This is not love. This is hatred.

Orgasm For Life is available on Amazon, Kindle, Smashwords. I would love for you to purchase your copy on Wednesday, hump day - yes, my crazy sense of humor. Then write your review on Amazon. This will help others to make their decision to purchase the book. I appreciate your review and look forward to hearing from you about what you think of the book. I am open to hearing your suggestions for my next book, Heart's On Fire.

Orgasm For Life - With Hollis Chapman -

By Jennifer Elizabeth Masters

Hollis Chapman interviewed me today on BlogTalk Radio about my forthcoming book: Orgasm For Life

The link is below to the interview.

Why did I write it?
What inspired me? God
40 % of women are sexually dysfunctional - and non-orgasmic
The purpose of writing this book was to bring men and women together and bridge the chasm between us.

Our communication isn't there. Women are afraid to speak up about what they need and what they want.

80% of women are faking it
26% are faking it ALL THE TIME
How do we change this? How can we communicate better with one another so that our sex lives can improve.

  1. Connect through eye contact with your partner
  2. Talk to your partner throughout the sex act
  3. Continue to talk to your partner so that they stay with you - instead of disconnecting and dissocociateing from their experience.
  4. Keep your mouth opened and relaxed. Relax your jaw.
  5. An orgasm is about letting go. Surrender to the experience
  6. Breathe - with an open mouth so that other parts of the body can open that need to and relax.
  7. Communicate with your partner about what feels good.
  8. Let your partner know what feels good.
